COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The 13th-ranked Ursinus College Bears tallied twice in the third quarter and held off a strong push by Dickinson to post a 2-0 win in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams at Snell Field on Saturday afternoon.
First Quarter
- The home side posted the first two shots of the game within the opening five minutes, but both chances did not test Arden Cook.
- Dickinson then used a penalty corner played in by Gillian Rosenstock to earn attempts from Megan McClure and Nicole Uebele which led to one save by Elise Martin.
- Ursinus had the last three looks of the frame as Marie Brainard, Rachel Fosbenner and Kylie Moore all missed the target.
Second Quarter
- Rosenstock and Uebele accounted for three of the first four shots. However, none of them led to saves for either Cook or Martin.
- Inside the final minute Brainard had two offerings blocked down by the defense.
Third Quarter
- Just over a minute into the frame the Bears made it 1-0 as Lauren Habakus played the ball to Ava Mikulski who beat Cook.
- However, the Devils then responded with a strong push as four corners resulted in opportunities for Caroline Kirkpatrick and Uebele that forced three stops by Martin.
- Despite the best efforts of the Red and White, the hosts extended the margin to 2-0 just prior to the end of the period courtesy of Ava Wood.
Fourth Quarter
- Unfortunately for Dickinson, Ursinus locked things down defensively the rest of the game as they did not allow a shot against in the fourth, while at the other end Cook recorded three stops to preserve the 2-0 final.
