(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College men's soccer team turned
in a strong offensive performance, turning back visiting
Misericordia University on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils
scored three goals in the first half and added two in the second
for a 5-0 victory.
Sophomore Shepherd
Waldenberger (Madison, Va./Madison County) made a
great move into the corner of the penalty area and fed first-year
Derek
Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) right in front of
the goal to put the Devils on the board in the 14th minute.
Nicolas
Tierno (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) was
taken down in the area just over a minute later and would convert a
penalty kick to quickly stretch the lead to 2-0. The Red
Devils would close out the half with a late tally as first-year
Sung Woo Kim (Seoul, Korea/Fryeburg Academy,
Maine) broke through the defense and assisted classmate
Daniel Gaj
(Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) with just 29 seconds
remaining in the half.
Centennial Conference Player of the Week, Dale Rodman
(Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), finished a beautiful cross
from Waldenberger with a header inside the right post in the 63rd
minute. Senior Thomas
Parkinson (Alamo, Calif./Westfield, N.J.) also
recorded an assist on the play with a great through ball to
Waldenberger, giving th Devils a 4-0 advantage.
Kim worked the ball down the right side with first-year
Ron
Geedey (Gap, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) in the 77th minute,
leading to the Devils' final tally of the night. The ball went off
the goaltender and a miscue by the Cougar defense led to a goal for
the Devils at the 76:48 mark.
The Red Devil defense turned in a strong performance in front of
sophomore goaltender Cody Hickok
(Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow). Hickok made just one save
when Misericordia broke free and David Stoner found daylight but
that was all he needed as the Cougars were held to just five shots
on the afternoon. Christian
Hall (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) came on for the final 21
minutes to secure the shutout.
Dan Fritz made three saves for Misericordia (7-5) while one of
the Cougar defenders saved a goal with a great play on the end
line.
The Red Devils improve to 7-2-2 overall. They are home again on
Saturday, hosting Johns Hopkins University at 1:00 pm.
