(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team split a Centennial Conference double-header with Washington College in a rare Monday twin-bill. The Shoremen claimed the opener, 7-4, while the Devils captured the nightcap, 3-1.
Senior Bart Marchant (Lakeville, Conn./Hotchkiss School) reached on a bunt single in the third and later came in a sacrifice fly by classmate Mike Schuster (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) to put the Devils on the board, 1-0.
Washington capitalized on a base hit and a pair of Devil miscues to tie the game in the fourth. The Shoremen broke the game open in the top of the seventh, scoring six runs behind a pair of two-RBI singles to lead, 7-1.
The Devils tried to rally as Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) led-off the bottom of the inning with a homerun over the wall in right field.
Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) walked and moved to third on a long double from Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge). They came in on RBIs from Marchant and sophomore Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas/Episcopal).
Rosa' led the way in the opener, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Senior Evan Fitzpatrick (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) suffered the loss, despite eight strikeouts on the afternoon.
The Shoremen jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the top of the first to start game two. Sean Connole led-off with his fourth walk of the series and later scored on an infield out.
Horan walked and again moved to third on a double, this time off the bat of Rosa'. Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) drove in Horan and Matt Tuneski (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) tallied an RBI, scoring Rosa'.
Rosa' scored on an RBI single by Tuneski to give the Devils an insurance run in the sixth inning.
Matt Vidal (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallows) earned the win, pitching a strong six innings, allowing just one run while first-year Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) earned the save.
Tuneski led the way at the plate in game two, driving in two runs and going 2-for-4.
The Red Devils improve to 20-15 overall and 6-11 in the Centennial Conference. They win 20 games for the first time in school history. The Devils are scheduled to host Muhlenberg College on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
