This summer I am interning at Pzena Investment Management with the Marketing Operations team in New York City.
Please describe your day-to-day responsibilities in this position.
During this internship, I sharpened my presentation and public speaking skills by working on a project that proposed how to market Pzena's newly launched ETFs to Gen Z investors. I collaborated with a team of 4 interns throughout the internship to research our recommendations and present them to the entire firm. On a day-to-day basis, I worked on projects to verify and automate database accuracy checks against internal sources, pulled data from platforms such as Bloomberg and Factset, and created data visualizations to help answer client questions.
What made this experience appealing to you?
This internship was especially appealing because it allowed me to apply my Data Analytics background in a field I had little previous exposure to. It showed me how valuable data is across every area of a business, while giving me the opportunity to experience the collaborative culture of a smaller investment firm.
How does this experience relate to your career or life aspirations? What are you looking to personally get out of it?
This internship gave me valuable experience building my confidence working with a team and presenting to a large audience in a professional setting. It also allowed me to become familiar with different roles within the company, giving me a better idea of the types of careers that best align with my interests and strengths.
How has your athletics career prepared you for this role?
My athletic career has taught me valuable time management skills that I rely on every day. It has also strengthened my ability to work effectively in small groups, since I've spent my entire life playing on a team. Communication is just as important in the workplace as it is on the baseball field, and athletics has helped me develop those skills.
What are you looking forward to for this upcoming year for your sport?
I am looking forward to getting back on campus, reconnecting with my friends, and meeting the incoming class of baseball guys. The fall is such a great team bonding period for all of us, and I hope to help welcome the younger guys and make their transition as enjoyable as mine was.
Is there anything else you are looking forward to this summer outside of this experience?
I am looking forward to going home once my internship is over. I've spent most of the summer in New York, so it'll be nice to spend some time at home with friends and family before heading back to Carlisle.
