Where are you working/interning this summer? Position, Company and Location?
This summer, I am interning with the Gallagher Executive Benefits Team in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Please describe your day-to-day responsibilities in this position.
During this internship, I have been able to refine my public speaking skills, learn the inner workings of the business, and create deliverables for future use. Each day, we work on a project relating to a different part of the business. We are also participating in a national sales competition, competing against over 500 other interns. Through these projects, we are learning how executive benefit plans are established and serviced over time, while delivering value through our presentations.
What made this experience appealing to you?
This experience was highly appealing to me because it allowed me to explore all aspects of the business. I've had the opportunity to experience marketing, analytics, and producer roles to see what fits me best. Being able to learn about all of these different career paths has been incredibly valuable.
How does this experience relate to your career or life aspirations? What are you looking to personally get out of it?
This internship has been an incredible opportunity to explore different paths in a unique industry. Before this, I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to do after college, but this experience has been instrumental in helping me determine which roles I want to pursue. Personally, I wanted to gain "real-world" job experience, find my professional niche, and become a more effective communicator and public speaker, which I feel I've already made great progress on.
How has your athletics career prepared you for this role?
My athletic career has prepared me well for this role because sports teach you the importance of being a great teammate and stepping up as a leader when needed. Since the executive benefits team operates in a client relationship focused industry, strong teamwork and relationship building skills are essential for success, which are directly developed through athletics.
Looking forward to this season, what are you most excited about?
I am incredibly excited to head into my senior season with the guys. Getting back together and seeing everyone after the summer is always a great feeling. We are especially pumped to meet the incoming first-years and welcome them to the team.
