(Scranton, Pa) – The Dickinson College men's soccer team tied the game with just 3:56 remaining in regulation to force overtime against the University of Scranton on Saturday. The teams played scoreless through two overtimes to end the game knotted at 1-1.
Scranton put a goal on the board early in the second half on a 25-yard strike from Bill McGuiness with an assist from Colin McFadden. The Devils would answer in the 87th minute as sophomore Chris Shultz (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) dropped a bomb in from 30 yards out off an assist from classmate Kyle Schwab (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom).
The game was as close on paper as it was on the field with Dickinson holding 25-20 advantage in shots. Scranton held a 7-6 edge in corners while fouls were 17-16.
Junior goaltender Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) turned in a strong performance in the Red Devil nets, making nine saves on the afternoon.
James Dillon stopped five shots for Scranton while the Royal defense accounted for a pair of saves as well.
Scranton stands at 0-0-2 on the season while the Red Devils open 2011, 0-0-1. Dickinson is in action again on Sunday, traveling over to King's College for a 2:00 pm start.
