(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team suffered a non-conference loss to visiting Misericordia University on Wednesday night, falling 2-1.
The Devils spotted the Cougars a pair of goals in the first half and spent the rest of the night battling to pull even. Andy Bush finished a pass from Rob Wiacek, 16:29 into the game to put the Cougars on the scoreboard.
The Cougars countered in the 23rd minute, adding another goal off the foot of Bush as Nick vonEgypt gained possession in the Devils' defensive third and found Bush in position to strike once again, stretching the lead to, 2-0.
The Red Devils continued to press, holding a 9-5 shot advantage in the first half. They capitalized in the 34th minute as sophomore Connor Gavey (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) ripped a shot into the net, following a Red Devil free-kick into the penalty area.
That would be all the scoring on the night as the teams went back-and-forth in a physical second half of play. The Devils had opportunities, including a pair of strong chances from junior Derek Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) in the second half.
Billy Sopko made seven saves in goal for Misericordia as they improve to 7-4-1 on the season. Senior Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made a pair of saves in the nets for Dickinson. The Red Devils slip to 8-2-1 overall. They return home to face Haverford College on Saturday in a rematch of last season's Centennial Conference Championship. Opening kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Biddle Field.
