(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's swim team had visiting Gettysburg in its sights until the second to last race on Wednesday night. The Red Devils trailed by just three points, entering the 100 yard breaststroke, but the Bullets placed first in the event and closed out with a strong showing in the 200 free relay for win. The Bullets remained unbeaten on the year with a 125-80 decision, improving to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils suffer just their second loss of the season, falling to 9-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Sophomore Jason Adams (Kingston, Jamaica/Kent School, Conn.) set an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 20.86, just five-tenths of a second off the school record. Adams added a win the 100 yard backstroke, clocking a time of 53.07, and placed second with the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 1:36.02.
Junior Zach Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) earned a win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.31, and placed third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.28). Classmate Ed Barnard (Springfield, Pa./Haverford) was second in the breaststroke with a time of 1:01.32, and swam the second leg of the medley relay. Sophomore Cris Miranda (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) swam the third leg of the relay.
Senior Doug Murray (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) swam the anchor leg of the second-place medley relay, adding a second place finish in the 50 freestyle (21.30) and a third place showing in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 49.61.
First-year Chris Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) earned a second place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:01.17 and placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:49.13). Seniors Andrew and Jack Shine (Paoli, Pa./Haverford School) placed second and third in the 1000 freestyle, clocking times of 10:30.89 and 10:31.23, respectively.
The Red Devils are home again on Saturday, hosting Swarthmore College in the regular season finale at 2:00 pm.
