(Aston, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team turned in a dominant performance on Wednesday, posting a, 9-3, decision at Neumann University.
The Red Devils struck quickly, scoring just 2:54 into the contest. Sophomore Alyssa Stillwell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) put one in the back of the cage on an assist from junior Ali Becker (Spring House, Pa./Germantown Academy). Becker followed up with a goal of her own, just over three minutes later.
The Red Devils continued to keep the pressure on in the attacking third, netting their third of the day on a penalty corner in the eighth minute. First-year Kendal Packo (Timonium, Md./Notre Dame Prep) finished an assist from classmate Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest).
Two more first-years connected to stretch the Devil lead to 4-0. Erica Marshall (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) rattled the cage with an assist from Kirsten Walsh (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) with 22 minutes remaining in the first half.
Neumann capitalized on a penalty corner with no time remaining in the half to put a goal on the board. Jess Harrell scored on an assist from Lindsay Spatola. Harrell scored on another corner to open the second half, cutting the deficit to 4-2. Alexa McIntyre picked up the assist.
Dickinson answered with a pair of goals in a span of just one minute, 17 seconds. Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) scored four minutes into the second half, and assisted Marshall on her second, a minute later. That gave the Devils a 7-2 lead.
Marshall added an assist to her line, feeding Maddie Groves (Acton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) for an 8-2 advantage, with 23:54 to play in the game. Senior Julia Applegate (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown Friends) tacked on an unassisted marker in the 56th minute.
Neumann countered a minute later with a goal by Kenya Woods, and Walsh tallied another with one minute on the clock for the final of, 9-3.
Marshall finished with two goals and an assist to lead that way on the offenseive end. Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) and Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa./Notre Dame Academy) split time in goal. Schlechtweg made one save as the defense held the hosts to just five shots.
The Devils fired off 35 shots and held a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners. Becca Wallace made 16 saves for the Knights (2-5) while Jillian DeFina recorded a defensive save.
The Red Devils improve to 3-2 on the season. They return home to face Swarthmore College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
