NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The 11th-ranked Dickinson field hockey team had the best year in program history come to an unfortunate end on Saturday afternoon as the fifth-ranked Salisbury University picked up a 5-0 win over the Red and White in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament at Jennings Family Stadium on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
First Quarter
- Salisbury spent the opening nine-plus minutes on the attack recording five shots tasking Taylor Morrow with making one stop.Â
- With 9:56 off the clock, Maggie Carson was issued a green card giving the Sea Gulls a player advantage for two minutes. Unfortunately, for Dickinson it took a little less than a minute for Marli McDorman to find Tessa Gray for the 1-0 lead.
- Dickinson would have two cracks at tying the game prior to the end of the period as a corner played in by Carson resulted in a shot by Nicole Uebele that got by the keeper, but Devon DeGregory was able to sweep the ball off the line.Â
- With horn having sounded the Devils were still within the attack area and ultimately awarded a penalty stroke. However, Merfie Lawson had the answer for Malena Malka Goldman to end the frame.
Second Quarter
- Less than a minute in McKenna Horner beat Morrow, but was unable to get the ball past Caroline Kirkpatrick.
- Two minutes later the Sea Gulls pushed the pace for the remainder of the period recording six shots leading to a pair of Morrow saves, while Madelyn Reed and Horner did get shots to the back of the cage extending their advantage to 3-0 heading to the break.
Third Quarter
- For the second consecutive quarter the Red and White were held without a shot as the Gulls posted four forcing Morrow into making one stop to keep the gap at 3-0 with 15 minutes to play.
Fourth Quarter
- Salisbury got goals from Morgan Bradford and Gray to push the gap to 5-0, while Morrow notched five more stops.
