LAKE MARY, Fla. - After engineering a magical season in 2025 for Dickinson field hockey, first-year head coach
Maggie Sohns was recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) this week with the Under 30 Coaching Award.
The Under 30 Coaching Award recognizes coaches under the age of 30 who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and meaningful impact within their programs. This year's recipients represent a new generation already leaving a lasting mark on the sport. Joining Coach Sohns as award winners were Megan Gutierrez from fellow Division III institution Dean College as well as Erin Matson from Division I powerhouse North Carolina.
In just her first season with the Red and White Coach Sohns made an immediate impact leading the team to the most wins in program history with 19 (five against nationally-ranked opponents), which resulted in a trip to the Centennial Conference Championship game and an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament first the first time in program history. In addition, her side posted a program-best 11 shutouts in a season as well as turning the Biddle Field Complex into a fortress going a perfect 12-0 in Carlisle. She along with assistant coach Sara Reddington were tabbed as the Centennial Conference Coaching Staff of the Year after working with five all-conference selections, including two All-Americans in
Natalie Slusser and
Nicole Uebele.Â
Coach Sohns reflected on the award saying "it is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the NFHCA with this award. I am both humbled and honored when I know there are so many incredible young coaches that do great work. I've been so lucky to have been coached and mentored by the best coaches, and I've been doing my best to live up to the standard they've shown me since I was a player. I'm grateful for my unforgettable first year, and the experience my athletes had with me, and I am so excited for the years to come!"Â
