Susquehanna won the toss and elected to receive. They drove 58 yards on 12 plays to take a 7-0 lead with 10:49 remaining in the first quarter.
The teams traded possessions with Dickinson taking over at the start of the second quarter. The Devils started the drive from their own seven yard line following a 42-yard punt by T.J. Morton.
Ahnell rushed for 47 yards and threw for 18 on the drive, scoring from the Crusaders' five yard line to knot the score, 7-7, with 8:41 remaining in the first half.
The defenses continued to hold as Morton recorded punts of 47 and 42 yards, while junior Adam Kaminski (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) boomed a 58-yard punt to close out the half.
The Devils opened with the ball in the second half, but were stalled on their own 39 yard line. Jared Minori broke through to block the punt, giving Susquehanna possession at the Dickinson 25.
Ian Richardson scored on a five-yard run to put the hosts back in front, 14-7, with 8:52 to play in the third quarter. The teams traded punts once again, sending the game into the final stanza.
Wilson carried the workload to put the Devils in the end zone to start the fourth quarter. He covered 43 yards, scoring on a 21-yard run to pull Dickinson even, 14-14, with 11:36 remaining in regulation.
The Devils forced another punt and Ahnell led them to pay-dirt once again, leading, 21-14. Senior fullback Mike Capone (Dupont, Pa./Pittston Area) carried the ball in from seven yards out, with just 3:03 to play in the game.
The Devil defense held again, forcing the Crusaders to go for it, on fourth down from their own 21 yard line. Junior linebacker Connor Thompson (Jenkintown, Pa./Father Judge) got his hands on the pass to break it up and Michael Miller (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace) almost came up with an interception.
Regardless, the play stopped Susquehanna's drive, giving Dickinson outstanding field position. The Devils were conservative with the ball, allowing Kaminski to stretch the lead with a 34-yard field-goal at the 1:44 mark, making the score, 24-14.
Susquehanna wasn't quite done yet, however. Tyler Kolmer connected with Kwane Hayle for a 67-yard touchdown pass, to bring the hosts within a field-goal, with 31 seconds left on the clock.
The Crusaders tried an on-sides kick, but senior wide receiver Colin Rodgers (Jamison, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) extended high into the air to gain possession for Dickinson. The Devils took a knee to run out the clock, posting their first win of the season.
In addition to Ahnell's 300-plus yards of total offense and Wilson's 95 on the ground, senior tight-end Todd Smolinsky (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) made seven catches for 63 yards on the day.
