(Chambersburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team went on the road to post a 5-1 win at Wilson College on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils turned in a dominant performance, outshooting the hosts, 28-4.
Sophomore Caroline Karwel (Fairfax, Va./South County Secondary) struck early, putting the Devils on the board, just 2:08 in the contest. Dickinson struck three more times in the half, all in the final 10 minutes.
First-year Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) started the run in the 26th minute and Karwel tallied her second goal of the game, almost exactly five minutes later.
Julia Applegate (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown Friends) added another in a span of just 1:49, stretching the lead to 4-0 at the break. Applegate netted her second of the afternoon in the 57th minute.
Wilson spoiled the shutout with 5:36 remaining in regulation. Victoria Whitbred collected her own rebound off a save, only her have her second attempt blocked. Megan Sterling was there to finish, however, making the final, 5-1.
Gina Weigold made 10 saves for Wilson while senior Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) face four shots and made a pair of saves.
The Red Devils improve to 1-1 on the season. They return for their home opener on Saturday, hosting Susquehanna University at 11:00 am.
