Devils Strike Quick to Tame Tigers 3-0

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season with an impressive win over the visiting Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday. Coming a thrilling double-overtime victory on Saturday, the Red Devils still had plenty in their legs for the Tigers.

The Red Devils struck early as senior Derek Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) broke through the defense and ripped a shot on goal. RIT goalkeeper Mark Reeves made the stop but the rebound went right to the foot of sophomore Isaac Pitkow (Jenkintown, Pa/Abington), who put the ball in the back of the net in the fourth minute.

The Devils used a beautiful give-and-go to net a second goal in the 23rd minute. Nate Latshaw (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) played the ball into the area and received a return one-touch pass from Kachadurian to find himself with a great look at the goal, stretching the lead to 2-0.

Dickinson continued to press throughout the half, controlling the majority of play. They capitalized on a set piece as senior Dan Gaj (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) redirected a header into the net, off a serve from senior Luca May (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas) with just over two minutes to play in the half.

The Devils had another free-kick from a similar spot, early in the second half, and May placed another dangerous ball in the box, but the Tigers were able to clear.

The second half became increasingly physical as the match went on. RIT made some dangerous attacking runs, but the Devils were able to maintain control of the match. Dickinson went deep down the bench, keeping fresh legs on the field throughout the match. And despite the variations of the line-ups, the Devils continued to control play for the better part of the match.

The Devils held a slight advantage in shots, 15-9, while RIT forced four corners and allowed just one on the defensive end. Sophomore Jacob Schreer (Towako, N.J./Morristown Beard) drew the start in goal, making four saves in the opening 75 minutes. First-year Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) came on to secure the shutout, making a strong save in the final minutes.

Reeves stoped five shots in the nets for Rochester as the Tigers slip to 2-2 on the year.

The Red Devils return to the pitch next Saturday, hosting Alvernia University at 7:00 pm on Phyllis Joan Miller Memorial Field.
