(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team turned in a strong, balanced team attack to post a 3-1 victory over visiting Elizabethtown on Wednesday night.
The teams traded points in the early going before the Red Devils pulled in front, 14-10, forcing Elizabethtown to call a timeout.
The Blue Jays came out and scored the next three points before the Devils answered with a 5-0 run to make the score, 19-13. Dickinson held off the Blue Jays to claim the opening set, 25-19.
Elizabethtown used a 5-0 run in the second to rally from a 10-7 deficit. They used a pair of service aces from Shannon Deck to put together another 5-0 tilt, en route to a 25-17 decision to pull even in the match.
Dickinson broke a 4-4 tie with a 6-0 run to gain some momentum in the third set. The Red Devils built a 19-9 lead and stretched the margin to 24-14 after the Blue Jays pulled within six. Dickinson went on to win, 25-18, giving the hosts a 2-1 advantage.
The Devils jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the fourth, and led 11-4, forcing a Blue Jay timeout. Elizabethtown rallied down the stretch, pulling within three, 21-18, before the Devils closed out the match with a 25-19 score in the final set.
Junior Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) dished out 30 assists on the night, raising her career total to 1,406. She becomes the fifth Red Devil to reach the 1,400 milestone.
Sophomore Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) tallied 20 digs and served up a pair of aces on the night. Four players recorded seven kills on the night. Sophomore Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) started the night with five kills in the first set, adding six digs on the night.
First-year Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied four solo blocks to go with seven kills. Classmate Gillian Chan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day) and junior Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) each added seven kills, while Smith picked-up nine digs as well.
First-year Lauren Beecher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) chipped in with five kills and three solo blocks.
Kelci Scannapieco led Elizabethtown (7-13) with a 10 kills while Steph High handed out 29 assists.
The Red Devils improve to 4-7 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Muhlenberg College for a 1:00 match.
