(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team tallied once in each half to post a 2-0 win over the visiting University of Scranton on Wednesday night at Miller Memorial Field.
The Royals came out on the offensive, putting up five shots in the opening 10 minutes to force three early saves by junior goaltender Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep).
The Red Devils countered, forcing three straight corners and generating a pair of shots for senior Alfred Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy).
The Red Devils would strike in the 18th minute as sophomore Will Bracken (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) finished an assist from Hylton-Dei.
Dickinson quickly gained possession once again, forcing another corner. Sophomore Macsen Pritchard (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) had back-to-back shots but was just off the mark. Junior Alex Bialko (Toms River, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) added a shot as well, but Eric Hintz made the save.
Each team produced a late chance with a corner, but the score would remain 1-0 at the break.
Scranton came out strong once again, forcing an early corner and another save from Palcan in the opening five minutes. Dickinson would capitalize on a foul in the 57th minute as Hylton-Dei converted a penalty-kick for his eighth goal of the season, putting the Devils up, 2-0.
The game was back-and-forth from that point with the Royals still challenging and looking to get on the board. Palcan turned away six shots in the second half, securing the shutout with a stop in the 88th minute.
Hintz would finish with three saves on the night as Scranton falls to 6-5-2 on the season. Palcan made nine saves for the Red Devils as they improve to 8-3-2 overall. Dickinson is home again on Saturday, returning to Centennial Conference action against Gettysburg College. Opening kick-off is set for 6:00 pm.
