Box Score By Connor Moore
(Carlisle. Pa.) - The Dickinson baseball team suffered another tough setback on Friday, losing a Centennial Conference matchup to McDaniel College, 4-0.
McDaniel struck in the top of the first before Harley Moore struck out the next batter for out number two and catcher Rick Hopkins caught a pop fly to end the inning. Sean Sivo reached on an error and quickly stole second and third. He came in on a sacrifice fly.
The Terror prevented Dickinson from getting any scoring going in the bottom of the inning, with the infield quickly putting away the first three batters in the lineup.
The Red Devils put up some stellar defense in the top of the second as well, outing the first three McDaniel batters in short order. Senior infielder Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) walked to start off the bottom of the inning but was caught stealing second during the next at-bat.
Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./Bullis School) hit a long triple to put Dickinson in scoring position, but the Terror's defense held firm and closed out the inning before he could reach home plate.
McDaniel managed to squeeze in one more run in the top of the third, bringing the score to 2-0. The Red Devils failed again to get any offense going, with the Terror only allowing one runner to get on base.
Werner had a great reach at first base to get the first out of the fourth inning and the infield mopped things up before McDaniel could bring in the runners it had on second and third.
The Red Devils kept McDaniel from scoring in the top of the fifth despite putting a runner on third, and Moore closed out the inning with a strikeout. McDaniel came right back with a shutout half of their own, closing the inning with a spectacular double play.
The game went scoreless until the top of the ninth when Marty Windisch hit a two-RBI single to put the Terror up 4-0. This sealed the victory for McDaniel, as the Red Devils were not able to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth.
Cameron Behr led McDaniel (12-12, 5-7) at the plate, going 3-for-4 on the day while Windisch talled four RBIs. Andrew Hofmeister and David Pisauro combined on a four-hitter as Hofmeister improved to 2-1 and Pisauro earned the save.
Moore finished with nine strikeouts, allowing no earned runs or walks. Werner led the offense with his triple to right center.
With the loss, Dickinson drops to 10-17-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the Centennial Conference. They go on to face Franklin and Marshall College on Saturday, traveling to Lancaster for a doubleheader with game one starting at 12:30pm.
