Box Score (Lynchburg, Va.) –Dickinson senior Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland) scored in the 85th minute to lead the Red Devil men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Roanoke College at the Shellenberger Classic at Lynchburg.
In a physical game that saw seven cautions, including a red card for Roanoke that put the Maroons man-down for the final 20 minutes of the match.
The Red Devils held the advantage in shots, 10-7, but faced six corners from Roanoke while forcing just two on the offensive end of the field.
The Maroons were able to keep pace until Van de Water hit a solid strike to lift the Red Devils.
Sophomore John Baney (Ridgewood, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) made four saves to earn the shutout.
The Red Devils improve to 2-1-1 on the season. They return home to face Messiah College on Wednesday night. The start time for that match has been moved to 7:00 pm at Miller Memorial Field.
