LANCASTER, Pa. - In a game that lacked for quality chances the Dickinson women's soccer team took advantage of their one great opportunity as
Sophia Elguera put the ball in the back of the net in the 67th-minute to help the Red and White hand No. 23 Franklin & Marshall their first setback of the campaign 1-0 at Tylus Field.
The home side was on the front foot early recording four shots in the opening 17 minutes with Devils keeper
Sophia Kavulich having to make two saves on Sierra Brophy and Alison Francis. Dickinson finally applied some pressure in the offensive third with
Katie Vassilakos being turned away by Emma Nolan with 18:23 off the clock. Four minutes later
Emma Cooney would have a go, but the Diplomats defense was there for the block. The remaining 26 minutes went by with no offensive chances by either side as the match went to halftime scoreless.
With two minutes gone in the second half Vassilakos recorded the first shot of the frame, but she was unable to bother Nolan in goal. F&M went in search of the go-ahead marker during the 59th when Brophy had her attempt knocked to the side by Kavulich. Four minutes later
Ellie Nordwind tested Nolan, however the Diplomat keeper was up to the task. The Devils did find the breakthrough in the 67th when a giveaway by the F&M defense came to the foot of Cooney who played the ball through to Elguera who chipped a shot over Nolan into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. From their the Dickinson defense locked things down as they allowed five home shots the rest of the way with none of them worrying Kavulich as the Red and White were able to see out the 1-0 win.
