CARLISLE, Pa. - Senior forward
Meg Tate netted two goals in the first half to help the Dickinson women's soccer team pick up a key three points in the Centennial Conference standings with a 2-1 win over the visiting Swarthmore College Garnet at Miller Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.
Before the match the Red and White honored their seniors
Lauren Bracken,
Caleigh Fletcher,Â
Phebe Guenther,
Sarah Hughes,
Keira Shoup, and
Meg Tate.
Dickinson had the first shot of the match as Tate sent one wide in the third minute, before the visitors recorded the next two chances with Emme Hansard having an attempt blocked and Megan Ruoff missing to the right. In the 15th minute, the Devils found the back of the net when
Emma Cooney played the ball to Tate at the top of the box where she let a shot fly past Nora Greer for the 1-0 lead.
Georgia Mantione tallied a shot a minute later, but she was unable to bother Greer. DC made it 2-0 during the 23rd as
Katie Vassilakos slid the ball to Tate for the finish. Each team put one more offering towards goal, however, neither Kim Kockenmeister or
Ellie Nordwind forced a save out of a keeper.
Swarthmore pulled one back with their first shot of the second period as Kockenmeister slipped the ball past
Sophia Kavulich. Dickinson tried to get that marker right back as
Maddie St. Amand and Vassilakos both had attempts, but could not test new keeper Lillian Keller. Kavulich would be tasked with preserving the DC advantage as she turned aside a blast by Amelia Mounts. Tate would go in search of some insurance during the 78th and 80th, unfortunately, they both missed the mark. Swarthmore had an opportunity to tie things up with 88:10 off the clock when Alice Onyango-Opiyo let one fly, but the defense was their to knock it down to secure the win.
