Box Score 2 EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J. - The Dickinson baseball team were able to push their win streak to six games with an 8-3 win in game one against The College of New Jersey, before having their run snapped in the second by an 8-4 decision on Saturday afternoon at George Ackerman Park.
Game One - DEVILS 8, TCNJ 3
Pitching Decisions
W - Ethan Hamilton (2-1) | L - Ben Amon (1-2)
Inside the Game
The Red and White got on the board early against Amon as Lukas Atsalis reached on an error followed by consecutive base knocks by Andrew Mazzone and Cole Hare to fill the bags for Luke Jackson. He delivered in a big way by clearing the bases with a three-run double to center. The pitcher then settled down to get the next two men to retire the side. Hamilton allowed two men to reach in the home-half of the frame, but nothing came of it.
The next three innings went by with neither side really mounting a threat as the game would head to the fifth with DC on top 3-0. Atsalis would move into scoring position with two away for Hare, but he went down on strikes to conclude the top of the frame. Hamilton got two quick outs in the bottom-half to bring Ryan Goodall to the dish. He would reach on an error by the third baseman and then move up 90 feet on a bad throw. That brought up Chris Cote who sent one back up the middle to drive in the runner.
Both teams added a run in the ensuing frame as Jackson started things off with a double to deep center. Then, after a sac bunt by Colin Jones Tom Gannaway extended the lead back to three with an RBI single to center. Unfortunately, the rally went no further as Ryan Thompson bounced into a double play. In the home-half Hamilton ran into some difficulty as an error, a single, and a walk loaded the bases with one gone for Mike Lagravenis. He would not face Hamilton as Joey Sangiuolo took over on the mound and got Lagravenis to swing through strike three. However, he would then hit Jack Haynes to force in a run, before getting Goodall to watch strike three.
Dickinson made it 5-2 after seven as Tyler Scaff smoked a two-bagger down the third baseline to send up Kenny Tagliareni who produced a sac bunt to move Scaff to third. Atsalis then followed with an RBI single to center.
A scoreless eighth moved the game to the ninth. DC began the frame with a walk to Thompson and a single by Tagliareni to put two on with two gone for Mazzone. He helped to put the game away for the Red Devils with a three-run bomb over the centerfield fence to make it 8-2 heading to last call for the Lions. Beau Dana relieved Sangiuolo and immediately gave up a double and a walk to bring up Cote. TCNJ pulled one back thanks to a double to center, but Goodall would be thrown out trying to advance home. Dana then settled down and got the next two hitters to end the game.
Game Two - TCNJ 8, DEVILS 4
Pitching Decisions
W - Michael Silver (1-0) | L - Thomas Marshman (2-1)
Inside the Game
For the second game in a row, the Devils began things strong as the first three batters reached against Jackson Malouf. However, back-to-back strikeouts against Hare and Jackson attempted to stop the Devils rally, but Matt Torres was able to reach on an infield single to drive in Tagliareni. The next batter was Gannaway and he worked a bases-loaded walk to plate Atsalis for a 2-0 lead after one.
Dickinson would take a 3-0 lead to the bottom of the second after Ian Beumee started the top-half with a solo jack to left. An error and a single put men on the corners for the Lions with one away, before Sebastian JnoBaptiste smacked a single through the left side to plate Cote. Then, after a free pass to Joe Oczkowski the bases were full for Zach Weiner who produced an RBI with a sac fly to score Chris Reeder making it 3-2 through two.
The Red Devils found the scoreboard again during the fourth as Tagliareni walked and stole second to put a runner in scoring position with two out for Mazzone. He extended the advantage to 4-2 with a double to deep right-center field. Hare would then fly out to right to retire the side.
TCNJ got back into the game in the fifth as a single by Lagravenis and a hit batter setup an RBI opportunity for Cote who delivered with a base hit to right. That signaled the end of the day for Marshman as Matt Spind took over on the mound. After a fielder's choice produced the second out of the frame back-to-back knocks by Justin Marcario and JnoBaptiste drove in two more to give the Lions a 5-4 edge going to the sixth.
The next two innings went by scoreless to leave the score at 5-4 entering the eighth. Chase Weller began the top-half with a double out to left-center, but then two groundouts and a strikeout against Chris Cassini wrapped up any threat. Alex Bouchard came out of the bullpen in the home-half to replace Koll Peichel and ran into some trouble. Walks to JnoBaptiste and Lagravenis along with a base hit for Weiner loaded the bases for Haynes. He stepped up and ripped a single to center to drive in one, followed by a fielding miscue letting two more come home with Goodall at the dish to make it 8-4 heading for the ninth.
Alec Schwartz came in to try and secure the game for the home team. He got Mazzone on strikes, but then issued two consecutive walks prior to inducing a game-ending double play out of Torres.
