Inside the Game
After being on the wrong end of fast starts for Johns Hopkins yesterday it was Dickinson that began the game with a bang as a walk to Lukas Atsalis and a base hit for the reigning conference player of the week Andrew Mazzone led to an RBI two-bagger for Cole Hare. Two men later Gannaway racked up his first knock of the day to plate both Mazzone and Hare for a 3-0 lead through just a half-inning. Brain Riley who got the start for the Devils fanned two batters during a flawless shutdown inning.
Riley was extremely strong over the opening three frames allowing just one baserunner on a walk. Dickinson would extend their advantage in the fourth as three straight hits by Chase Weller, Cole Benner, and Kenny Tagliareni filled the bags for Atsalis. He drove in one on a fielder's choice, which was then followed by Mazzone ripping one to center scoring one more to make it 5-0 through four. The Red and White tacked on another run an inning later when Gannaway blasted the ball over the left-center field wall.
However, Dickinson ran into trouble during the home-half as the first three Mules reached, before a fielder's choice off the bat of Ryan Herbert scored one. Two batters later Jonathan Toth doubled to left plating two and then Danny Monzo drove home one more to trim the deficit to 6-4. That was the end of the day for Riley as Alex Bouchard took over on the hill. He allowed a double, before getting Ben Kollender to swing through strike three. Each side put one more on the board in the sixth as Tagliareni homered for DC and Caleb Tereska knocked the ball over the wall making it 7-5 going to the seventh.
The Red and White scored three more times in their next at-bat as two singles and a walk filled the bags for Mazzone with one out. He drew a walk to score one and Hare picked up a base knock to left to drive home another run. Luke Jackson was safe on a fielder's choice to add one more to the scoresheet giving the Devils then 10-5 edge heading to the eighth.
Bouchard slammed the door on Muhlenberg allowing just one walk over the final two frames to lockdown the 10-5 win.
