Box Score CARLISLE, Pa.- After a huge bounce back win against Muhlenberg on Sunday the Dickinson baseball team struggled to find their hitting shoes on Tuesday afternoon at MacPhail Field as the Red and White came out on the wrong end of an 8-2 decision against Centennial Conference leaders Franklin and Marshall College.
Final: Franklin & Marshall 8, DEVILS 2
Pitching Decision
W- Dan Galef (1-0) | L- Matt Spind (0-1)
In-Between the Lines
The first three innings were routine for both sides as starters Dan Galef for F&M and Matt Spind for the Devils were dealing, as each team only managed a hit apiece. Jakob Hoffman and Tom Gannaway both doubled in the second, but the game was still scoreless.
The first threat and run came for Franklin and Marshall in the fourth. AJ Desautels led off with a single and then Hoffman singled to right. The bases filled up for the visitors after a walk which resulted in the end of the day for Spind. Peyton Fox took over on the mound and he got Drew Butera to popout to retire the side. However, during that at-bat a passed ball allowed Desautels to score.
After Dickinson was set down in order in the home-half of the fourth F&M went back to work in the fifth. Three walks led to Bobby Falese singling to left driving home a pair. Grayson Walker then became the third pitcher of the day for the Red and White. He was able to get the second out of the inning on a fielder's choice before a runner scored on a passed ball. Patrick Cettina then singled to left for the second two run single of the inning making it 6-0. The Red Devils would load the bases with one away in the bottom-half, but a strikeout and pop-up halted the rally.
F&M added one more in the sixth as Tommy Denlinger plated Evan Varga who led off with a single with a sac fly to Lukas Atsalis in right. Dickinson plated two in the bottom of the frame off of reliver Shane Rebane as Gannaway singled, before coming home on a Matt Torres triple. He then made it 7-2 when Rebane uncorked a wild pitch. The Diplomats capped the scoring their next time up with Cettina driving in Hoffman with a single after he began the frame with a two-bagger against Zach Gordon.
The pitchers were the story over the final two frames as each side went six-up and six-down.
