Inside the Game
Matt Spind got the nod for Dickinson for his fourth start of the season. He delivered an impressive 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts to start the game. Then the Devils went to work providing immediate run support as they scored five runs and hit through the order in the first. Kenny Tagliareni was hit by a pitch for the fifteenth time this season to start things. He was the first run as he scored on an Andrew Mazzone single. Cole Hare ripped one to right field to bring home Lukas Atsalis who reached via a walk. Matt Torres then brought home Hare to make it 3-0 ahead of another single, this time from Tyler Scaff, which brought home two more runs for a 5-0 edge after one.
Spind delivered issue-free second and third innings before Thomas Rodgers doubled to bring home two runs in the fourth after Aidan Legner walked and Danny Monzo singled. The Red and White responded immediately with two of their own as a walk, single, and hit batter filled the bags for Hare. He would work a walk against reliever Ryan Friesen to score one. Then, with Luke Jackson at the dish, Atsalis came home when Friesen uncorked a wild pitch extending it to 7-2 through four.
Brian Riley replaced Spind with the revamped five-run lead and did well in his first inning. Two runs would again be scored by the Mules during the sixth as Jake Swerdloff doubled to score Christian Schwarz and Monzo who reached on a single as well as an error respectively. Dickinson once again had an answer offensively as they batted around for the second time in the game. Tagliareni began things with a single, followed by a single for Atsalis and Mazzone reaching on an error. With Hare in the box, Tagliareni raced home on a wild pitch. After back-to-back strikeouts, Tom Gannaway singled to left to score Atsalis. Ryan Thompson would provide the next two runs on a single to center that brought home both Hare and Mazzone. Finally, Scaff singled again to right field to score Gannaway extending the lead to 12-4.
A free pass to Jonathan Toth with two away led to an RBI two-bagger for Monzo making it 12-5 in the seventh. Dickinson put the finishing touches on this one in the seventh and eighth innings as they scored two more runs in each. Gannaway singled in the seventh to score Hare and Atsalis after they reached on a single along with a walk. Tagliareni worked a one-out walk against Sam Kelstein, before the newly appointed conference hitter of the week Mazzone hit another home run, well up the hill in right-center at MacPhail. Joey Sangiuolo and Grayson Walker took care of the remainder of the game accounting for six of the staff's fifteen strikeouts in the 15-6 win.
