CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team got a goal in each half to help the Red and White post their fourth straight win as they edged out the Carthage College Firebirds from Kenosha, Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon by a scoreline of 2-0 at Miller Memorial Field.
Carthage was on the front foot early as Aidan Crowder missed to left, before Eli Schoffstall was turned aside by
Andrew Kempe in the 11th minute. Then, a minute later Dickinson was on the board with their first shot of the match as
Chris Hackley played a ball in from the left-wing.
Tyson Burling would let it roll past him to
Ethan Jarden who ripped a shot beyond the reach of Christian Lekki for the 1-0 lead. The Devils had a pair of chances to extend their margin, but
Alessandro Forero in the 15th and
Saul Iwowo in the 22nd were denied by Lekki. There were just two more shots in the half both of which came from the Devils with Iwowo and Burling each missing high.
The Firebirds went all out to begin the second period trying to find an equalizer. However, Trevor Molitor and Mickey Reilly (2x) both did not scare Kempe's goal. After a yellow card assessed to Iwowo the Red and White flipped the momentum as
Peter Scarborough and Iwowo got shots off that force Lekki into a pair of saves. Then, with 71:05 off the clock
Luke Finkielstein worked inside the attacking box letting a shot fly that was stopped by Lekki. The ensuing rebound skipped out to Cole Jenning who slotted the ball into the empty net for the 2-0 advantage. From there it was all DC as
Austin Holloway,
Chaz Smith, and Iwowo (2x) all got shots off, but were unable to add onto the lead. The last attempt of the match came with 3:39 left when Schoffstall was shutdown by Kempe to maintain the clean sheet.
