Devils Sweep Home Tri-Match on Saturday

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's volleyball team took their win streak to three on Saturday by earning a pair of victories over Lebanon Valley College and Penn State-Altoona in a tri-match at the Kline Center.

Match One - Red Devils 3, Dutchmen 1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-23, 26-24)
After the Devils fell behind 2-0 scores by Sophia Denayer, Emma Lange, Ann Marie Patterson, and Emma Popham gave DC a 7-4 edge. The two sides traded the next eight points allowing the home team to maintain an 11-8 lead. The Red and White then got kills from Denayer and Lange to push the margin to 14-9. Once again the teams shared points splitting the ensuing six (17-12). Then, the Dutchmen found a groove with Margaret Cole, Taylor McInerney, and Ali Whitworth going on a 6-1 run to knot the score 18-18. Dickinson picked up kills off the hands of Amelia Kim, Denayer, and Lange to help outpace LVC 7-4 for the 25-22 win. 

The visitors began the second strong taking an 8-5 lead to start. Then, six of the next eight belonged to the Red and White thanks to Alexa Barowski, Camille Dofiles, Kim, and Lange to jump ahead 11-10. LVC fought back with help from four DC miscues tto claim a 15-14 edge. A pair of kills each from Denayer and Lange help to bring DC back on level terms 19-19. The Dutchmen closed with an 8-6 push on kills by Julia Rill and McInerney to even the match at a set apiece (27-25).

LVC seemed to have command of the third at the beginning taking a 7-4 advantage on a DC error. Dickinson rallied back to close within 11-10 thanks to kills from Denayer and Popham. However, a 7-3 charge for the Dutchmen capped by scores for McInerney and Rill nudged the visitors ahead 18-13, but 5-2 Devils response ending in a block by both Barowski and Popham closed the gap to 20-18. After, LVC made it 21-18, before DC ripped off four straight with kills by Kim and Popham to claim a 22-21 edge. With the hosts down 23-22, Kim and Lange scored three-straight for the 25-23 victory.

It was Dickinson who took the early lead in the fourth as Avery Lewis, Barowski, Lange, and Popham all put down scores for the 7-5 lead. LVC then took five of the ensuing seven points to take a slim one-point edge (10-9). A 4-1 answer for the Devils made it 13-11, but then kills for Kelli Heffer, Veronica Morris, Cole, and Rill brought the guests all the way back to even 16-16. From there the Dutchman grabbed five of the next eight to thake the 21-19 advantage. The Devils wrapped up the set and the match with a 7-3 run with scores from Grace Coccagna, Denayer, Kim, and Popham to finish things off 26-24.

Match Two - Red Devils 3, Lions 0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-16)
Dickinson was flying to kickoff the match with Barowski, Denayer, Dofiles, Kim, and Lange all putting away kills to make it 11-5. Penn State-Altoona pushed back with a 5-2 stretch on kills by Lacee Barnhart and Taylor Myers to cut the deficit to 13-10. The teams traded the next six points, but then PSU added points from Taylor Kilmer to bring the score to 18-16. Dickinson responded with an ace by Dofiles and consecutive assisted blocks by Barowski and Popham opening the lead out to 22-17. The Lions closed to within 24-22, before a Lange kill wrapped up a 25-22 win.

For the second straight set DC took control early leading 9-3 thanks to Cassidy Davis, Barowski, Lange, Patterson, and Popham. Despite scores from Davis, Kim, and Lange the sides split the following ten points to leave the Red and White ahead 15-9. An ace off the hand of Coccagna led to a 6-2 Devils charge to stretch the gap to double-digits 21-11. After PSU took four of the next six a Davis kill followed by by a bad set from Kayla Moran gave the hosts a 25-15 victory.

With the score 3-3, Dickinson ripped of an 8-1 run on kills from Mathilde Verbitsky and Lange to go up 11-4. Two Barnhart scores made it 11-7, but four consecutive Lange kills and a solo for Davis extended the margin to 16-9. PSU picked up the next two points, prior to Davis and Verbitsky racking up four in a row (20-11). Lydia Mock, Barnhart, and Kilmer did their best to keep the Lions within striking distance at 24-18. However, Lewis recorded the final kill to close out the sweep 25-18.
