Devils Face Stiff Test in No. 21 River Hawks on Homecoming

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson football team will try to build on their convincing 35-9 win over Gettysburg College on Saturday when they welcome the No. 21 Susquehanna University River Hawks to Biddle Field for the Home Opener on Homecoming tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.

Inside the Devils Den
Recapping Last Week
The Red and White used an extremely balanced attack to earn their first win of the season 35-9 over Gettysburg last Saturday to retain the "Bronze Bucket" for the sixth straight season. Diante Ball did it all for the offense picking up 277 yards and three scores on the ground, while adding 46 yards through the air to go along with a touchdown.

Tough Start
For the third time in their first four games the Red Devils will face a nationally-ranked opponent after squaring off with then No. 20 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the season opener, before taking on No. 18 Muhlenberg College both on the road. 

Home Cooking
Dickinson will go for their first win in a home opener since 2014 when the Red and White toppled Susquehanna also on Homecoming by a score of 29-28 in front of a packed crowd of 4,200 at Biddle Field.

My-Own-A Offense
For the second consecutive game Matt Maiona took command of the offense and was in complete control going 10-14 for 243 yards with a pair of touchdown tosses. He also picked up 17 yards on five carries. 

Top Targets
Maiona found five different receivers against the Bullets with both Bryce Peterson and Ball haul in three passes each for 74 and 46 yards respectively. Princeton Douglass recorded the most yards on the day eclipsing the century mark with 102 on just two grabs, including a 73-yard house call. The duo of Johnny Knight and Devlin McCool both caught one pass for a combined 21 yards.

Ground Attack
Ball led the rushing attack with his 277 yards and three scores to earn him Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. Douglass also helped carrying the rock four times for 31 yards, while Adam Smith chipped in six touches adding 24 yards.

Defense is Strong
The Red and White continued to showcase a staunch defense allowing just 254 yards to the Bullets. Dickinson currently ranks fourth in the Centennial on defense giving up just 19 points and 306.3 yards to the opposition per game. Jeremy Reid was the top stopper for the DC defense on Saturday ranking up nine tackles (six solo) and one pass breakup, while Chris Klem added seven stops and 0.5 tackle for loss. The trio of Fabian Egger, Bram Leys, and Tanner Long accounted for 14 stops, including 3.5 tackles for loss and two a pair of pass breakups. Jason Hollinger forced the one turnover on the day recording one interception. 

In the Nest
Susquehanna comes into the game with a 3-0 mark overall and 2-0 inside the Centennial Conference with wins coming against Lycoming (45-16), Franklin & Marshall (39-36), and Moravian (37-3). Last week against the Greyhounds the River Hawks racked up just shy of 500 yards (478) with 238 coming on the ground and 240 through the air, while forcing a pair of turnovers. Conversely, they limited Moravian to just 123 total yards of offense. Michael Ruisch leads the Hawks offense going 58-96 on the season for 817 yards and eight touchdowns. His top targets are a trio of guys with double-digit catches paced by Michael Lefever who has 14 grabs for 258 and three scores, while Kyle Howes has 13 for 213 and Bryce Ellinger has chipped in 10 catches for 76. On the ground Frankie Negrini has carried 43 times racking up 161 yards and two TDs. The group of Gavin Coles, Hunter Coulter, D.K. Wyche, and Ruisch all have double-digit touches and have accounted for three TDs. Defensively, John Nicosia has a posted team-highs in tackles (29) and solo tackles (9), in addition to adding 3.5 tackles for loss. Jake Schultes is sixth on the team in tackles (14), but leads the Hawks with 4.0 stops for negative yards. The unit of Keith Green, Drew Robinson, Naphtali Stine, and Andrew Wells all have one pick each.
