CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team got a goal each from
Saul Iwowo and
Johnny Melancon en route to picking up their second consecutive shutout as the Red and White knocked off the visiting King's College (Pa.) Monarchs by a scoreline of 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Miller Memorial Field.
The Devils had a chance to fall behind inside the opening two minutes as a foul inside the box by
Mack Moore led to a penalty kick for the visitors. Liam Yair stepped up to the spot and went to the keeper's right, but
Andrew Kempe made a diving stop to keep it 0-0. Dickinson got the next two chances with
Chaz Smith and Iwowo both being turned aside by Jake Forst. Then, in the 22nd minute the home side got on the board when
Luke Beiles whipped in a corner from the wing that caught the head of Iwowo for a glancing header past the goalie for the 1-0 edge. King's would force Kempe into two more saves in the period as he knocked aside attempts from Shane Serio (30th) and Chris Vollrath (40th).
The second half saw Iwowo get the first shot just 43-seconds in, but it missed the mark to the left. Things then got chippy as four yellow cards were handed out between minutes 51 and 69 without another shot being attempted by either side. After the physical finally settled down Dickinson recorded the next four shots with
Tyson Burling,
Will Flannery,
Ethan Jarden, and Beiles all shutdown by Forst. The Red and White found their insurance marker in the 75th when Burling had a shot pushed aside by Forst. Unfortunately for the Monarchs keeper he pushed the ball right into the path of Melancon for the finish and the 2-0 advantage. King's had four of the final five chances of the match, but were unable to find the back of the net allowing DC to leave the pitch with a 2-0 win.
