Cold Fourth Allows Fords to Overcome Devils

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team attempted to avenge their lone conference loss to this point on Saturday afternoon when they got a second crack at Haverford College. However, for the second matchup in a row between these two teams it would be the Fords that had the better final frame as they outscored the Red and White 20-11 to overcome a ten-point deficit for a 52-50 win at Gooding Arena.

It was the home side out to the fast start as HC went up 7-2 inside the first three minutes on a triple from Ally Landau along with buckets for Siena Emuobor and Abby Ryan. The only Devils offense to that point came on a couple of foul shots by Clair Marion. Haverford push the lead to seven 11-4 with 5:44 left in the first when Ryan put back her own miss. Dickinson battled back with a 6-1 push thanks to four points from Marion and a jumper by Jenna Weinstein to close within 12-10. After an Erin Albright jumper, the Red and White responded with baskets for Caitlin Blackman, Mia Kolb and Weinstein to pull level 14-14 at the 8:20 mark. Lindsey Hollenshead and a buzzer-beater out of the hands of Weinstein helped the two sides share the final eight points to leave things locked at 18-18 through one.

91-seconds is how long it would take to see scoring in the second as Gina Neigel tallied her first points of the game, before notching her second almost 90-seconds later to give the visitors a 22-18 edge. Foul shots by Eleanor Alix and Summer Ryan cut the deficit to 22-21, but Blackman knocked down a pull-up jumper to nudge the margin back to three (24-21) with less than three minutes remaining until halftime. Mia Chapman and Kolb combined for the final four points to give the Red and White the 28-21 halftime advantage.

Dickinson took five of the first seven points in the third with Kate Montgomery finishing off a nice dish from Marion, while Blackman dropped in a three on a pass by Hollenshead making it a double-digit lead 33-23 with 7:24 left. After two minutes went by scoreless buckets for Kolb and Montgomery extended the margin to a dozen 37-25. Five points by Landau and a layup for Kayla Robinson had the Fords wrap-up the third on a 7-2 sprint to make it a manageable 39-32 Devils edge heading to the final ten minutes.

Haverford continued to chip away early in the fourth with buckets by Cortlyn Morris and Landau closing to within 41-36 still with 8:40 remaining. Marion netted eight of the next ten points on her own to stretch things back out to a double-digit lead at 49-38 at the 4:07 mark. A layup for Morris cut it down to 49-40, before Kolb split two at the charity line for a 50-40 edge with 5:16 left. Unfortunately for the Red and White they would go 0-5 over the rest of the game while the Fords embarked on a 12-0 charge with the final seven coming from Landau including the game-winning bucket with five-ticks to play. Dickinson would get two final cracks at a tie, but jumpers by Marion and Montgomery were blocked by Robinson and Morris respectively to seal the win.
