CARLISLE, Pa. - In a game that saw just ten combined shots the Dickinson field hockey team battled tough all afternoon through the rain and the wind to secure a huge 2-1 Centennial Conference win over Washington College at the Biddle Field Complex on Saturday.
The Red and White would take advantage of the first corner of the match at the four minute mark when a corner inserted by
Abby Marthins came to
Maggie Carson at the top of the circle. She would then spin off a defender and feed a beautiful pass to
Ella Krenzer who stuck her shot past Charlotte Schurman for the 1-0 lead. The remaining ten-plus minutes would be played primarily in the midfield as there would not be another shot recorded in the period.
Dickinson continued to carry the play during the second as the Devils recorded three shots inside the opening three minutes thanks to
Nicole Uebele,
Morgan Yandow-Harding and Marthins. It would be the fourth offering of the quarter that resulted in goal number two when
Malena Malka Goldman pounced on a rebound from Schurman and tucked the ball back into the cage making it 2-0 at halftime.
After
Taylor Schlein was not called into action at any point through the first 30-minutes,
Olivia Renault took over between the pipes for the third and watched her teammates go right down the pitch and test Schurman twice as she had the answer for both Marthins and Yandow-Harding to keep things 2-0. It took until the 35th-minute of the match for Washington College to tally their first chance when a corner played in by Kendal Thomson led to a pair of blocked shots against MaryCate Anson and Alexis Tackney which sent the game to the fourth.
The Shorewomen broke the shutout with the only shot of the final frame when Tackney hit Brynn Balliet for the finish to set the 2-1 result.
