CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's tennis team gave everything they had all afternoon, but ultimately came up on the wrong end of a 9-0 decision to the visiting Swarthmore College on Sunday at the Hays Tennis Courts in the Centennial Conference opener for both squads.
Doubles (Garnet 3-0)
The Devils were only able to claim one game during the entire doubles portion of the match as the top pair of
Ariana Goitz and
Alisa Steele fell 8-1 to Nathalie Williams and Crystal Xu. The other DC pairs of
Anabelle Armendarez and
Izzy Desjardins as well as
Dana Kleinman and
Molly Michel each dropped 8-0 decisions.
Singles (Garnet 6-0)
Dickinson's best chance to take a set came in the number two slot where Steele went toe-to-toe in the opener against Jenny Lewis, before dropping 6-7 (3-7 tiebreak). Lewis then won the second by a comfortable 6-0 margin. At number five Michel won a combined five games from Lola Diaz in a 2-6, 3-6 setback. A slot later was Desjardins who nabbed four games against Riya Rao (3-6, 1-6). The other three Devils consisting of Goitz (1st), Armendarez (3rd) and Kleinman (4th) joined together to win a total of four game as their Garnet counterparts all posted straight set wins.
