CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team used a combination of eight pitchers to try and slow down the high-powered and third-ranked Shenandoah University on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, for the Red and White the Hornets recorded eight extra-base hits to secure an 18-5 non-conference win at MacPhail Field.
Pitching Decision
W - Michael Prosperi (1-0) | L -
Nathan Weisoly (0-1)
Inside the Game
Thomas Marshman got the game started on the hill for the Devils and was solid in his two innings of work allowing just one runner to reach via a walk. Weisoly became the first DC pitcher out of the pen and immediately ran into some difficulties as three walks and a single forced in one, before Colby Martin ripped a bases-clearing triple to left-center for a 4-0 lead with no one out. That brought
Alex Hill into the game and he allowed a sac fly to Gavin Horning for a 5-0 edge. Two hits, a walk and hit batsman forced in the sixth of the frame. A strikeout and popout retired the side. Dickinson got on the board in the home-half as
Ethan Sodl began the frame with a knock to left, prior to
Johnny Bruno sending the Prosperi offering over the left-center field wall to trim the gap to 6-2.
Nathan Bowman followed by being hit by a pitch and then advancing to third thanks to a sac bunt and wild pitch. He would come home when
Kenny Tagliareni flew out to right to cut it down to 6-3 through three.
The fourth saw the visitors add on three more against
Evan Connery as Martin homered to right. A two-bagger from Gavin Horning set the stage for an RBI double by Pearce Bucher, before he came in on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ryan Clawson. The Hornets made it 10-3 during the sixth when Horning worked a leadoff walk against
Pat Metzger, leading to an RBI single for Bucher. Metzger then allowed no more damage as he recorded a strikeout and flyout to move the game to the last of sixth. A walk to
Dylan Posencheg by Prosperi started the last of the inning. After a failed pickoff attempt let him reach second and a wild pitch put the runner on third a flyout for
Kaden Sigmon and strikeout of
Colin Jones prevented any damage.
Luke Nemeth went to the hill for the seventh and allowed three runs to come across as Dillon Partin walked, before being driven in two batters later by Kooper Anderson. The next man-up was Martin who provided his second home run of the game with a two-run blast to right. In the eighth
Peyton Fox hit a bump as six straight batters reached resulting in four more runs coming across for the Hornets. Dickinson touched up new SU pitcher Matt House during the bottom-half as a two-out single from
Desmond Watkins was followed by a free pass to Tagliareni, prior to Sigmon slapping a pitch to left-center scoring one to make it 17-4 heading to the ninth. Three Hornets singles against
Joey Sangiuolo plated one more for the guests, while a two-out triple from
Campbell Brusman and an infield single by
Will Ferris set the final score of 18-5.
