Inside the Game
Devils starter
Alex Hill ran into trouble right out of the gate as he hit three of the first four batters, while walking the other one to force in one run. The next man was Troy Emert with the bases full and he lifted an offering up to deep left field that got caught up in the wind and blew over the wall for a grand slam making it 5-0 just five men in. A walk and double then left two in scoring position with still no outs. The next two men went down on strikes, before Tyler Suder drove in two more for a 7-0 lead through just a half-of-an-inning. Dickinson scratched one across in their half as singles from
Kenny Tagliareni and
Kaden Sigmon along with an error put two in scoring position for
Chase Weller with two gone. During his at-bat Mounties starter Dylan Brown uncorked a wild pitch to plate Tagliareni making it 7-1 through one.
Evan Connery was the next man on the hill for the Red and White to begin the second and he was solid through two frames allowing no runs, while giving up just two hits. Offensively, for DC
Campbell Brusman and
Will Ferris each provided a single over those same two innings, but could not put together much of an offensive threat. Zack Wernick became the third home pitcher as he took over in the fourth and gave up a double to Tyler Quade, before consecutive flyouts led to him scoring. After a walk to Joshua Brown he got out of any more potential damage by getting Ryan Lynn to flyout. Evan Becquet who was credited with the win saw one person reach during his solo chance in the fourth when
Ethan Sodl was safe on an error with two down, prior to Brusman grounding out to third.
Dickinson's next best chance to come up with some more runs came in the last of the sixth against Tanner Perrone as a single from Sigmon and free pass to
Christian Kim coupled with a wild pitch put the two in scoring position with no outs. However, two strikeouts and a lineout crushed the rally hopes. to move the game to the seventh.
The Mounties picked up two during the eighth versus
Luke Nemeth as with two away two walks, led to an RBI single for Payton Warner. Back-to-back wild pitches let the tenth run of the game race home, before Suder flew out to right retiring the side. Then, in the ninth with one out
George Thorpe ripped a two-bagger to left-center. However, back-to-back strikeouts recorded by Jeremy Eck finished off the game.
