CARLISLE, Pa. - The third-seeded Dickinson baseball team will begin their first postseason run since 2004 and their first charge under head coach
Craig Hanson on Thursday afternoon when they head to Lancaster for a battle with second-seeded Franklin & Marshall College at 3pm.
Tournament Overview
After single games on Thursday at top-seeded Johns Hopkins and second-seed F&M the tournament will makes its way down to Baltimore, Maryland for the remaining two days of the double-elimination action on Saturday and Sunday. With a win on Thursday the Devils would play the winner of Johns Hopkins and Haverford on Saturday at around 12:30pm, while a DC loss to the Diplomats would see them take the field at 9am against the loser of the Blue Jays and Fords.Â

The Devils Den
Dickinson enters the tournament as the number three seed with a mark of 22-16-1 overall and 10-8 within Centennial Conference play. This season the Red and White find themselves on the right side of the postseason picture after going 22-15 (10-8 Centennial) during the 2022 campaign, but missed out on the CC Tournament on the final day of the regular season with a road split against Washington College in Chestertown.Â
Offense
Veteran Leadership
Kenny Tagliareni has been the catalyst at the top of the order for the Devils hitting .366 with 48 hits (nine extra-base), 34 runs batted in and being hit a conference-leading 18 times, while only striking out 11 times. The duo of
Kaden Sigmon and
Derek Smith are both smacking the ball at over a .300 clip at .346 and .333 respectively. They have also joined up for 89 hits (33 extra-base), including ten home runs and 55 RBIs.
Andrew Mazzone and
Ryan Thompson are also recording an average of more than .300 with each tallying 29 hits for the season. The trio of
Nathan Bowman,
Christian Kim and
Matt Torres have been major contributors as well as all are hitting higher than .270 and joining up for 95 hits (27 extra-base), including six home runs and 61 RBIs. Â
First-Year Production
Dylan Posencheg has started all 36 games that he has appeared in posting a .271 average to go along with 35 hits, 38 runs scored, 24 RBIs and 22 free passes, while going 18-21 in stolen base attempts. The trio of

Will Ferris and
Ethan Sodl have also contributed to the offensive production combining for 28 hits and 24 RBIs as well as eight stolen bags.Â

Solid Starting Core
The trio of
Ethan Hamilton (5-1),
Koll Peichel (5-2) and
Grayson Walker (5-1) went a combined 15-4 during the regular season on 146.2 innings pitched with 146 strikeouts. Peichel hurled 52.2 frames to lead the team on 12 appearances fanning 51 batters and allowing opponents to hit .318. Hamilton made ten appearances all starts lasting 48.1 innings striking out 34 hitters on a .294 average against, while Walker made a dozen appearances (eight starts) posting a team-best 4.14 ERA, whiffing a team-high 61 to go along with a .267 opposition average.Â

Reliever
Joey Sangiuolo made 17 appearances out of the pen holding a 1.82 ERA in 34.2 innings striking out 37 and issuing just seven free passes.
First-Year Dynamic Duo
The pair of rookies
Charlie Bien and
Austin Buzza joined together to make 20 appearances (eight starts) tossing 54.2 innings recording 56 strikeouts and just 14 walks posting a joint record of 5-4. Â

No. 1 Seed - Johns Hopkins Blue Jays
The top-seed in the tournament comes into play on Thursday ranked number one in the nation with a record of 36-3 overall and 17-1 in the conference. They are led offensively by a trio of athletes that are hitting over .400 as Matthew Cooper is ripping the ball at an outstanding .492 clip with team-highs in hits (63), RBIs (53), runs scored (48) and home runs (19). Alex Shane follows Cooper with a. 469 average thanks to 46 hits and 27 RBIs, while walking 13 times. Shawn Steuerer rounds out the group on .400 with 58 hits and 40 RBIs. On the hill Gabriel Romano has been fantastic making nine appearances (nine starts) going a perfect 8-0 on 56 innings pitched allowing just 49 hits and 16 runs, in addition to striking out 41. Kieren Collins and Matt Savedoff will also be arms that the rest of the conference have to be on alert for as they have combined to go 10-0 on a dozen starts accounting for 85 frames with 76 hits and 87 K's. Ben Keever has served as the main closer racking up four saves out of 13 appearances with a stellar 0.89 ERA. Bob Babb is at the head of the Blue Jays nest for the 44th season.Â

No. 2 Seed - Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats
Franklin & Marshall enters their third game against the Devils on Thursday in just over a week with a mark of 25-15 overall and 12-6 within the Centennial. The Diplomats rely on a balanced offensive attack with five players hitting .300 or higher paced by the duo of Drew Butera and Tommy Denlinger who are at .354 and .346 respectively, while both men have recorded a team-high 46 hits and combined for 53 RBIs. Andrew Fillippelli (.322) and Jakob Hoffman (.321) have tallied 64 runs batted in to go along with 26 base on balls. Bobby Falese (.310) will be a guy that opponents will have to keep in the yard as he along with Hoffman have blasted a team-high five homers. Dan Galef is the top arm for the Diplomats after making 13 appearances (10 starts) posting a 3.13 ERA on 54.2 innings pitched going a flawless 5-0 and recording 47 strikeouts. Bijan Anvar is another man that has put up great numbers finishing the regular season at 5-1 with a 4.23 ERA and fanning 37 batters. The tandem of Grant Burgess and Thomas McLaughlin have been tasked with finishing off games for F&M combining for five saves. Ryan Horning is in his tenth season at the helm of the Diplomats program.Â

No. 5 Seed - Haverford College Fords
Haverford arrives at the double-elimination portion of the tournament with a record of 20-19 (9-9 Centennial) and have already gotten a taste of postseason baseball with a 7-6 win over Swarthmore in the four vs. five play-in game on Tuesday. The Fords offense is also led by five players hitting .300 or better with Harry Genth pacing the unit with a .344 thanks to team-highs in hits (53), runs scored (45) and runs batted in (37). Zach Becker has added 51 hits and 26 RBIs, while posting a .340 average. The trio of Kyle Beach (.330), Zach Landry (.302)Â and Jack Wallis (.322) have joined up for 117 hits and 89 RBIs to aid in the Haverford attack. Sam Cohen has the best record on the hill for the Fords going 5-1 in seven starts and is the team-leader in strikeouts (53) with a 6.38 ERAÂ on 48 innings pitched. Josh Fuller has made 10 appearances (seven starts) posting a 3-2 record hurling two complete games in the process of his 47.1 frames tossed leading to a 4.75 ERA. Riley Grohowski went 6-4 with two complete games of his own, while throwing a team-high 68.1 innings striking out 38. The group of Ethan Goldstein, Wyatt Mattison and Fuller are the ones tasked with finishing off the games as they have combined for four saves on the year. Dave Beccaria is at the head of the Fords program for the 23rd season.
