CARLISLE, Pa. - After suffering their first loss of the season on Wednesday evening the Dickinson women's soccer got back to winning ways on Saturday night by knocking off the visiting Washington College Shorewomen 2-0 in the Centennial Conference opener for both sides at Miller Memorial Field.
Dickinson dominated the opening 45-minutes holding a 7-0 shot advantage in the first half. During the period the Red and White got shots from
Bridget Merkel,
Ava Prisco,
Maddie St. Amand (3) and
Katie Vassilakos. Within that barrage towards the Washington goal the Devils asked questions of keeper Hailey Sharpe, but she was always up to the task notching three stops in the frame as the match went to the break at 0-0.Â
The Shorewomen were determined not to be held shotless over the second-half as it took just 42-seconds for Kayla Streett to let one fly over the head of
Sophia Kavulich and out of play. Dickinson would be held without a shot through the first ten-plus minutes until Prisco sent a pair of shots high and to the left. In the 71st minute the teams would trade chances with Kaileigh Brady and Vassilakos each missing their respective goal. The match seemed destined for a draw with the way things were going until the 78th-minute when Merkel had a shot turned away by Sharpe that resulted in a corner. On that corner,
Emily Dunkel found the head of
Lila Brown who nodded the ball into the net for the 1-0 lead. Dickinson then extended the margin to 2-0 at the 84:15 mark when
Lexie Greene slotted home a penalty kick after a foul in the box by Dahlia Kuzemka. Washington would record the final shot of the match during the 88th-minute, but Bridget Whiteside missed the target to the left.Â
