ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - To say the Dickinson women's soccer team had a positive weekend would be an understatement as the Red and Black posted their second straight clean sheet with 5-0 victory over the Seagulls of Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Stadium on the campus of St. Mary's College. The Devils dominated their two opponents on the weekend outshooting them 41-11 and 25-5 on target. Dickinson also showed great scoring depth with eight different players accounting for the nine goals across the two matches.
Dickinson was the first side to mount any kind of sustained pressure in the offensive third as
Lexie Greene and
Katie Vassilakos each missed the target inside the opening 17 minutes. Then, in the 19th-minute
Maddie St. Amand played a nice ball down the right-side to Vassilakos who attempted to take a shot at Sea Gulls keeper Riley Pinato, but she raced off her line to cutdown the angle. However, the ball bounced off the goalie to
Lila Brown who guided it into the net for the 1-0 lead.
Ava Prisco tried to make it 2-0 in the 30th, unfortunately Pinato had the answer. Salisbury did not record their first shot of the match until the 32:24 mark when Jordan Edwards missed wide left. Three minutes later Edwards met the same fate not even scaring DC keeper
Sophia Kavulich.
Norah Heacock and Brown each recorded on shot in the final three minutes forcing Pinato into one more save as the halftime horn sounded.
The Sea Gulls were on the front foot out of the break as Lauren Spelman and Edwards tasked Kavulich with making two stops in the opening eight minutes. In the 57th-minute the Red and White made it 2-0 with St. Amand charging up the left-wing and dropping a beautiful back-post cross to Vassilakos who finished it off on the volley. After Pinato recorded two more stops off of consecutive DC corners the lead grew to 3-0 with Brown playing a long ball over the top of the SU defense to Prisco which allowed her to rip a shot into the top-corner over Pinato with 64:44 gone. The Red and White tallied five of the final six shots of the match calling on Pinato twice to make a save, while
Sarah Cudmore tacked on an unassisted marker for the 4-0 final scoreline.
