CARLISLE, Pa. – First-year
Ava Burgess netted her first collegiate goal as five different members of the Dickinson women's soccer team hit the back of the net as the Red and White picked up a 5-0 Centennial Conference victory over the visiting Haverford College at Miller Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.
Dickinson was on the "front-foot" early as
Lila Brown and
Katie Vassilakos missed the target, while
Ava Prisco rang the crossbar over the head of Theresa Haupt. Then in the 19
th minute, DC keeper
Elizabeth Allen was called into action by Sarah Klink. Five minutes later the Red and White were on the board when Vassilakos hit the back of the net after Haupt shutdown
Bridget Merkel. Things went quiet on the offensive side of the pitch until Grace Haskell had a shot denied by Allen with 31:10 off the clock. The Devils made sure to add onto their advantage two more times before the half as
Emily Dunkel played a corner to
Norah Heacock for the finish, prior to
Allison Cudmore finding
Allie Charnas to make it 3-1 going to the half.
Inside the first ten minutes of the second half Dickinson recorded two shots as both
Sophia Elguera and Heacock missed to the left of Haupt. The Red Devils defense continued to be stout as they did not allow a shot towards Allen over the opening 15 minutes, while the home side tacked on one themselves with Vassilakos setting up Prisco to make it 4-0 with 61:37 gone. From minutes 63 to 66 DC earned three corners and got shots from Brown, Merkel and Vassilakos forcing one stop out of Haupt. Dickinson would make a change between the sticks at the 66:06 mark as
Emma Burrows took over for Allen. Haskell would immediately test the new keeper as she tried to break the clean sheet, but Burrows was there. After
Sarah Graham was stopped by Haupt in the 79
th, Burgess would have her moment at the 81:01 mark when she corralled a bouncing ball and fired a shot beyond the reach of the keeper stretching it to 5-0.
Lexie Greene had a bid to make it six, but the keeper turned it aside to set the final.
