Devils Sweep Non-Conference Tri-Match Versus Golden Tornadoes and Bobcats

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson women's volleyball team snapped their two-game slide on Saturday afternoon by posting a pair of wins at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg tri-match inside the Chambers Hall Gymnasium. First, the Red and White took down Geneva College 3-1, before toppling the host Bobcats 3-0.

Match One - DEVILS 3, Golden Tornadoes 1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19)Template - 1st Set
  • The two teams traded blows early on with kills from Alexa Barowski, Amelia Kim and Mallie Thomas giving DC a 5-3 edge.
  • Geneva then took seven of the next nine to go ahead 10-7.
  • However, the Devils rallied back in a big way as Jessica Currie, Emery Fishbach, Kim and Thomas pushed the Red and White to a 17-14 lead.
  • Dickinson continued to fend off the Tornadoes with three points for Eliette Whittaker and a solo kill by Fishbach made it 20-15.
  • Daphne Alexander, Emily Nelson and Zoe Pifer tried to keep Geneva within range at 21-19, but Barowski, Currie, Kim and Thomas finished things off for a 25-19 win.

  • The Tornadoes got off to an early lead with an ace for Nelson giving them a 6-2 edge.
  • Dickinson then fought back as Willow Palmer, Barowski and Currie sent them to the front at 9-8.
  • A pair of aces for Evelyn Stroup bookended a 9-0 GC run to claim a 17-9 lead.
  • After the teams shared the ensuing four points, the group of Grace Coccagna, Currie, Fishbach and Kim organized a 9-3 push of their own to cut the deficit down to 22-20.
  • Megan Veon would record the next three points for the Tornadoes to take the frame 25-22.

  • It was Dickinson who jumped out to a 9-4 advantage with scores coming from from Barowski, Currie, Thomas and Whittaker.
  • Katie Seboe, Alexander and Nelson then ripped off nine in a row for the 13-9 lead. 
  • An ace by Avery Butcher coupled with a block for Barowski and kill put away by Kim knotted the score at 13-13.
  • Two points each from Nelson and Seboe helped to edge GC in front 19-15.
  • However, a trio of Thomas scores along with two each for Currie and Fishbach capped a 25-22 DC win.

  • Points scored by Barowski, Coccagna and Thomas handed the Devils an 8-5 edge.
  • Four of the ensuing seven went to the Tornadoes as they got within 11-9.
  • The rest of the set belonged to Dickinson with Barowski, Currie, Fishbach, Kim and Thomas finishing things off for the 25-13 triumph.

Match Two - DEVILS 3, Bobcats 0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-17)Template - 1st Set
  • Things were tight early as the home side held a 5-4 edge despite Barowski and Kim recording kills for the Devils.
  • A pair of Cassidy Davis kills along with an ace from Palmer and score for Kim made it 8-5 DC.
  • The Bobcats answered with seven of the next eight to reclaim a 12-9 lead.
  • Dickinson stormed back using a 12-3 outburst thanks to Barowski, Currie, Dofiles, Kim and Whittaker making it 21-15. 
  • Scores for Madison Friess and Samantha Hohman trimmed the gap to 23-18, before a Davis kill and PG mishit gave DC the 25-19 victory.

  • After PG held a 1-0 lead, Dickinson responded with points by Katie Arcara, Currie and Thomas to jump ahead 6-1.
  • Following two straight for the Bobcats, Lillian Bigsby, Barowski, Currie, Fishbach, Palmer and Thomas amassed a 15-2 charge to take a commanding 21-5 advantage.
  • The home side came up with four of the next seven courtesy of Abigail Smulik and Friess cutting the deficit down to 24-9.
  • A Bobcat miscue would lead to Dickinson taking the set 25-9.

  • Dickinson came out trying to make a statement with a pair of Currie kills along with solos for Davis, Fishbach and Whittaker giving DC 10-5 lead.
  • Ca'Mari Walden and Hohman tried to keep the Bobcats afloat at 14-10, but two errors and a Currie kill opened the Devils edge out to 17-12.
  • However, two Megan Cassaday scores coupled with an ace for Friess trimmed the margin to just one at 17-16.
  • The Red and White would let things get no closer though as Butcher, Davis, Fishbach and Whittaker finished the match on an 8-1 romp for the 25-17 triumph.
