BALTIMORE, Md.. - The sixth-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team got a pair of goals from junior forward
Saul Iwowo on Friday night, but it was not enough as the host and 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays used a three-goal first half to help themselves secure a 4-2 conference win at Homewood Field.
- Dickinson would have issues getting into the offensive third early in the match as the home side recorded two shots within the opening ten minutes as Aidan George denied Jonathan Cui, while Francis Meyer sent one wide of goal.
- However, in the 11th-minute the home did crack the board as Will Sangpachatanaruk played a cross into Scotty Coleman who fired a shot beyond the reach of George.
- The Red and White had a chance to answer back just a few minutes later when a foul in the box by Aidan Dunphy resulted in a penalty kick for DC. Nicholas Dwamena stepped up from 12-yards out trying to knot the match, but Simon Turner dove down to his right to make the save.
- Luke Beiles recorded the next shot of the match for either side during the 26th minute, unfortunately, the defense was there to knock it down.
- Johns Hopkins then secured control taking the ensuing five chances leading to goals from Ian Whamond and Meyer making it 3-0 after 45 minutes.
- Gavin Marr took over between the sticks for the Red and White to begin the frame and immediately watched Will Andrus have a chance snuffed out by his backline.
- In the 50th, Dickinson gave themselves a lifeline as Ethan Jarden slipped a pass to Saul Iwowo for the finish past Turner.
- However, less than a minute later Dunphy answered back for the Jays pushing the margin back to three at 4-1.
- Dwamena tallied the next two attempts for the Devils, but one was shutdown by Turner and the other was blocked by the defense as the match entered the final half hour.
- Following a stop for Marr on Dunphy, both Dwamena and Jarden asked questions of Turner, but he had the answer.
- Iwowo completed his brace with 72:14 gone when Jeremy Sallade and Westin Fryberger combined to setup the junior for the finish.
- Beiles and Iwowo each tried to close the gap late in the half, however, neither one was able to test Turner as the match came to a close.
