Devils Lockup Third Seed in CC Tournament, Despite Loss to No. 11 Blue Jays

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson continued a busy three-game week on Thursday night with their second straight matchup against a nationally-ranked foe as the 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays came calling into the Kline Center. Unfortunately, for the Red and White a stout visiting full-court press and an early 12-4 run set the stage for the guests to claim a 67-49 Centennial Conference win.

The two sides traded the opening eight points of the game with Clair Marion and Michaela O'Neil scoring for their respective sides. Then the visitors went on a charge as Macie Feldman, Jadyn Murray and O'Neil tallied eight in a row for a 12-4 edge with 5:27 gone. After Dickinson missed seven straight from the floor a foul shot by Clare Cronley and pull-up jumper for Caitlin Blackman trimmed the gap to 12-7. However, buckets from Murray and O'Neil opened up the lead to nine (16-7) through ten minutes.

A paint jumper by Lindsey Hollenshead was the lone bucket for DC over the first two-plus minutes of the second period as Layla Henderson, Greta Miller and O'Neil went on a 9-2 outburst to make it 25-9. Dickinson attempted to start a comeback with Abby John and Jenna Weinstein picking up two points each, before Marion delivered from deep to cut the deficit to 25-16 still with half the frame to go. Unfortunately, for the home side Henderson, Miller and Murray dropped seven of the ensuing ten points to grow the advantage to 32-19. The Devils tried to reclaim some momentum going into the break with jumpers out of the hands of Indatou Ali-Goukoye and Blackman cutting it down to 34-23 at halftime.

Hopkins used the first five minutes of the third period to increase their advantage to 43-25 thanks to buckets by Henderson, Miller and Murray as John was able to produce the only basket for DC. Jumpers for Hollenshead and Marion surrounded a triple by Feldman making it 46-29 with 3:34 to play. After Marion and O'Neil exchanged two free throws each, Dickinson picked up scores from Blackman and Marion to leave things at 51-36 with ten minutes to play.

Six of the first ten points went Dickinson's way to kickoff the fourth with Marion scoring twice and Weinstein taking a Marion dish to the rack to cut the deficit to 55-42 at the two minute mark. The Blue Jays made sure the Red and White would get no closer as Feldman, Henderson and Murray extending the margin to 63-43 with a little over two minutes left. Triples by Marion and Weinstein capped off the scoring for the Devils the rest of the way as Hopkins finished off the 67-49 final.
