Devils Stung by Hornets in Spring Break Closer

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Dickinson women's tennis team concluded an outstanding Spring Break trip on a sour note Friday morning with a 9-0 non-conference defeat to Shenandoah University at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Club.

Doubles (Hornets 3-0)
All three matches were fairly close with the second pair of Dana Kleinman and Molly Michel falling 8-5 to Ariella Stepleman and Allison Cherwien, while the other Dickinson teams of Alisa Steele and Bonnie Thomas (1st) as well as Maddie Lindquist and Katharine van Kesteren (3rd) each dropped their decisions by identical 8-4 margins.

Singles (Hornets 6-0)
In a change from the typical scoring each match went just one set. Dickinson's best chance came in the sixth slot where van Kesteren fell 8-6 to Leigha Montrief. At number one, Steele came out on the wrong side of an 8-5 score versus Tanea Spruill. Michel was then able to nabbed five games from Stepleman, while both Sara Jaklitsch and Thomas fell by scores of 8-2. Lindquist in the three slot lost to Cherwien 8-1 to close out the shutout.

The First Serve
Dickinson (6-2) begins Centennial Conference action on Saturday, March 30th at 2pm with a visit to Swarthmore College.
