Inside the Game
The first two innings belonged to Dickinson starter
Nathan Weisoly as he allowed one runner in each frame, but he let them go no further as the game entered the last of the second scoreless. With one down free passes to
Matt Torres and
Josh Markley coupled with a base hit from
Ethan Sodl filled the cushions for
Kyle Bailey. He made it 1-0 with a knock to right, followed by an RBI walk to
Luke Gartland and
Kenny Tagliareni being plunked by Spartans pitcher Eric Chaney led to the Red and White grabbing a 3-0 advantage. That led to Lane Berkey taking over on the mound. He struckout
Dylan Posencheg for the second out of the frame, but on the K his pitch got away from the catcher allowing the fourth of the game. Weisoly then put up a shutdown inning with a pair of groundouts as well as a strikeout. The home side pushed the margin to 5-0 during the home-half of the third when with two out and one at second, Bailey provided his second RBI to send the contest to the fourth. York pulled one back in the top of the fourth thanks to three hit batters and a single, before Bien induced an inning-ending double-play with the bags full. Jackson Kelley replaced Berkey in the bottom of the fifth and he immediately hit some trouble as
Kaden Sigmon walked and Torres was hit by a pitch to place two on with no out for Markley. During his at-bat two consecutive wild pitches let Sigmon cross, before Markley smacked an RBI single up the middle to make it 7-1 still with no out and one on. Unfortunately, a popup and double-play closed out the rally. The Devils bullpen continued to keep the Spartans at-bay as Bien,
Matteo George and
Dylan Robinson posted a scoreless sixth, seventh and eighth to hold the gap at six (7-1) with the visitors facing "last call".
Glen Cantalupo Jr. went to the hill trying to wrap things up, but two singles, a double and sacrifice fly to right resulted in three coming in to cut the deficit to 7-4 with two down and runners at the corners with the tying run stepping into the box. That led to Riley entering the game now facing a save situation, which he finished off is strong fashion by getting Gabe Trevena to look at strike three to finish the game.
Devils Mound Report
Weisoly took a tough no-decision throwing the first 3.1 innings allowing just one hit and one run with two strikeouts and a walk. Bien received the win a solid 2.2 frames of no-hit shutout ball to go along with two Ks and a free pass. The duo of George and Robinson combined for one inning each of scoreless relief. Cantalupo was credited with 0.2 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs. Riley collected the save with the final 0.1 with a strikeout.
