ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Dickinson softball team had their 2024 season come to an unfortunate end on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the Centennial Conference tournament as the offense could just never get on track falling to the host Muhlenberg College Mules by a final of 6-0 in the 4/5 play-in game at Cedarcreek Field.
Records: Dickinson – 11-21 | Muhlenberg – 24-14
Time of Game: 1:22
Pitching Decision: W – Raya Kunes (9-4) | L –
Abby Kohan (5-7)
Inside the Game
Following a one-two-three top of the first for Raya Kunes, her offense went to work in the home-half as a single by Sophia Cicchetti started the frame off. She would steal second and advance to third on a single by Kaya Mahy, but was thrown out at home by
Zoe Kleeblatt. A knock for Scooter Hulsen had runners at the corners, before a single by Lillie Teague made it 1-0. Devils starter
Abby Kohan then rallied the troops and got the next two. Both pitchers were lockdown over the next two frames as the game shifted to the fourth still just 1-0. With Dickinson still looking for their first hit
Jessie Sandusky singled out to left opening up the frame, but was erased when she tried to steal second with
Jane Lloyd at the dish. Kunes then turned away both Lloyd and
Eden Blanker to move the contest into the last of the fourth. Kohan would unfortunately hit some tough luck that frame as three DC miscues, some heads-up baserunning and just one hit resulted in four unearned runs crossing the plate for the Mules as they took a 5-0 lead after four. Kohan attempted to help herself out with a two-out single to left, but
Kaylie Renner would groundout to third for the final out. Renner would then take over in the circle during the last of the fifth and induce three straight grounders to end the frame. The Mules then used a two-rally during the sixth to add one more to their advantage as back-to-back singles between Mahy and Hulsen made it 6-0 with the Devils facing their last chance. Dickinson tried to mount some pressure in the seventh as singles by Kleeblatt and Kohan had two on with one out leading to a pitching change as Justine Bergara came into the contest. She would allow no bigger of a threat to develop recording a groundout and strikeout to end the game.
Devils Circle Report
Kohan suffered the loss going the first four innings allowing eight hits and five runs (one earned) with one strikeout and no walks. Renner went the final two frames giving up a run on three hits.
The On-Deck Circle
Dickinson end their season with an overall record of 11-21 with an even .500 mark inside the Centennial Conference at 8-8. With only three seniors on the team the Red and White will look towards the offseason to relax and reload before making another push at a conference crown during the 2025 season.
