Inside the Game
Dickinson wasted no time getting on the board as
Kenny Tagliareni was hit to begin the last of the first. After a wild pitch and groundout moved him to third, Thompson grabbed his first RBI of the day with an infield single to make it 1-0 heading to the second. Devils starter
Nathan Weisoly ran into a little trouble with two down during the second when two walks and a single filled the bags, but JJ Foti bounced into a double-play to finish the threat. Singles for
Luke Gartland and
Johnny Bruno coupled with
Christian Kim reaching on an error loaded the pillows with one out for Tagliareni. He was then hit for the second time to force in one, before a
Dylan Posencheg sacrifice fly and RBI infield hit for Thompson extended the gap to 4-0 going to the third. Muhlenberg pulled one back in the frame when a hit batter, double and walk set the stage for an RBI free pass drawn by Mason Mehling to cut it down to 4-1. The game stayed that way until the last of the fourth when a single and fielder's choice had men at the corners with no one out. However, Tagliareni was caught stealing for out number one, prior to Posencheg delivering a sacrifice fly. A free pass to Thompson and single by
Kaden Sigmon loaded the bags once again leading to a two-run double off the stick of
Matt Torres to open the lead out to 7-1 through four. Following a quiet top of the fifth by George, Dickinson went to work in the home-half against Alex DeLucia. With one gone and two in scoring position, Posencheg was hit by the pitch to fill the cushions for Thompson who collected RBIs three-four-five with a bases-clearing triple to deep right-center making it 10-1. The next man up was Sigmon who plated Thompson with a single up the box, before three men later with the bags re-loaded Gartland legged out a fielder's choice to plate one and Kim was hit by a pitch from new arm Charlie Siper to open it out to 13-1. Bruno then produced a sac fly to center setting the margin at 14-1 as the game rolled onto the sixth. That was when
Zach Wernick went to the hill for Dickinson and allowed three hits as well as a sacrifice fly letting two men come home cutting it down to 14-3. Wernick had two men in scoring position and inning later as the Mules attempted to force the game beyond seven innings, but a strikeout, groundout and flyout finished the game.
Devils Mound Report
Weisoly got the start going the first three allowing three hits and one run, while striking out and walking four each. George was credited the win following two frames of one-hit, no run relief adding three strikeouts. Wernick finished off the game with four hits, two runs and one K.
