Devils Not Able to Maintain Early Lead in Conference Setback to Bullets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team got off to an outstanding start on Wednesday night taking a 2-0 lead with set wins of 25-23 and 25-21. However, the host Gettysburg College rallied back to claim the next three sets to post a 3-2 conference win inside of Bream Gymnasium.

First Set
  • The two sides traded the opening ten points as two aces for Amanda Palo and a kill each by Mallie Thomas and Eliette Whittaker had the score tied at 5-5.
  • Avery Butcher, Emery Fishbach, Amelia Kim and Whittaker then embarked on an 8-3 charge to go ahead 13-8.
  • Gettysburg then stormed back with points from Emma Bradshaw, Kendall Erpenbeck, Kierra Fox, Ellen Manke, and Alycen Radolovic capping an 11-2 onslaught for a 19-15 edge.
  • Three GC miscues helped DC cut the margin to 21-18, before Jessica Currie, Norah Oppenheim, Kim and Whittaker all recorded points on a 7-2 stretch taking the set 25-23.
Second Set
  • Kills from Lora Flynn, Currie, Fishbach, Kim and Thomas helped DC to an early 9-4 lead.
  • A Mary Huegel score slowed the Red and White down for a second, but kills by Fishbach, Kim, Thomas and Whittaker allowed the visitors to maintain the advantage at 17-10.
  • Gettysburg would respond on scores for Erin Gonzalez, Nala Shearer, Bradshaw and Huegel to bring themselves level at 19-19.
  • For the second straight set Dickinson was able to stave off the late charge from the Bullets as kills from Currie, Thomas and Whittaker coupled with a combination block between Currie and Whittaker finished off a 25-21 win.
Third Set
  • The home side got out to a 4-2 edge thanks to points for Gianna Galli, Ava Grall, Huegel and Radolovic.
  • An error and a pair of Kim kills pushed DC ahead 5-4, but Gettysburg claimed nine of the ensuing ten to go back in front at 13-6 on a Bradshaw kill.
  • Two GC miscues and another Kim score kept the Devils hanging around 17-11, before three Radolovic scores extended the advantage to 20-11.
  • An ace off the hand of both Camille Dofiles as well as Butcher and kills from the group of Currie, Kim and Oppenheim cut it down to 23-17. However, a Bradshaw kill ended the frame 25-17.
Fourth Set
  • The Bullets came out strong as Galli and Radolovic opened up a 9-4 lead.
  • Two Kim kills and solos by Currie along with Thomas cut it down to 11-8.
  • Kills for Huegel and Radolovic bookended an 8-3 romp to stretch their gap to eight at 19-11.
  • A trio of Currie scores and single points by Butcher and Kim made it 23-18, but kills from Bradshaw and Huegel forced a deciding fifth set (25-18).
Fifth Set
  • The two sides traded the opening dozen points with DC scores coming from Currie, Kim, Oppenheim and Thomas.
  • However, after that it was all Bullets as Erpenbeck, Gonzalez, Grall, Huegel and Radolovic all recorded kills during a 9-2 run to end the match at 15-8.
