BALTIMORE - The Dickinson volleyball team gave the ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins University all they could handle for three sets on Wednesday night inside of Goldfarb Gymnasium. Unfortunately, for the Red and White they dropped their first Centennial Conference match of the season 3-0 to the Blue Jays by scores of 20-25, 23-25 and 16-25.
First Set
- With the score tied 2-2, points for Katie Arcara, Mallie Thomas and Eliette Whittaker helped DC to take a 6-2 edge.
- However, Simone Adam put down the ensuing kill to spark a 9-3 charge ending on a score by Anna Pantano giving JHU the 11-9 lead.
- Kills for Jessica Currie and Amelia Kim helped the Red and White keep fighting to within 17-15.
- Another point by Adam made it 18-15, before two Thomas kills and a solo block from Kim kept DC in striking range 21-19.
- The Blue Jays claimed four of the next five to nab the frame 25-20.
Second Set
- A trio of kills by Kim gave the Devils an early 4-3 advantage.
- JHU would jump ahead 9-6 thanks to aces from Annika Anderson and Nicole Tusynski.
- Points secured by Avery Butcher, Emery Fishbach, Kim and Thomas aided a 10-4 charge for the visitors to reclaim a 16-13 lead.
- The two sides exchanged the following eight points as kills from Kim and Thomas kept the Devils in front by three (20-17).
- Helena Swaak got the deficit to 20-19, before Currie and Kim bumped the gap to three (23-20).
- Unfortunately, for Dickinson, two points each from Celine Ebert and Jocelyn Pye gave the Jays five in a row for the 25-23 win.
Third Set
- A Butcher ace and scores for Kim and Whittaker left DC behind by one (5-4) to open up the set.
- Adam and Anderson then kicked off a 7-1 run to open up a 13-5 advantage.
- Four Hopkins miscues and a Thomas kill made it 17-10, but Ebert and Pye helped the Jays to be the first to 20 at 20-12.
- Lora Flynn then setup kills for Fishbach and Thomas to make it 23-16, before an error and Swaak kill capped the match (25-16).
