ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Dickinson football team had their 2025 regular season come to a conclusion on Saturday afternoon with a 30-17 Centennial Conference loss to Muhlenberg College at Scotty Wood Stadium.
First Quarter
- The home side got the ball to start and used a strong rushing attack led by Dante Mahaffey, Luke Spang and Matthew Manning to advance down to the DC15. Isaac Schaffer then joined the fun with 15-yard touchdown rush to give the hosts a 7-0 lead seven minutes in (Andrew Deutsch kick).
- After Dickinson came up empty on their first possession the Mules took over on their own 19 after a punt by Michael Furlong. Two carries by Mahaffey racked up a dozen yards, before Spang found John Runfolo and Caleb Pasols for a combined 41 yards down to the DC28. The ensuing three plays picked up three yards leading to a fourth down on the DC25. That was when Spang connected with Logan Nordeck for a touchdown and the 14-0 edge (Andrew Deutsch kick).
Second Quarter
- Runs by Cedric Benning III and Ben Klassen had the Devils at the MC44 to begin the frame. Completions from Klassen to Kellen Boyer and Kevin Schmidt put DC in the red zone on the MC19. Carries for Benning III pushed it to the MC11 which led to a 29-yard field goal from Justin Worobel cutting it down to 14-3.
- Four straight rushes for Manning had the Mules resting on the DC37. After a Dickinson penalty pushed the ball to the DC25, four more run plays resulted in a four-yard TD by Mahaffey to extend the gap to 21-3 (Andrew Deutsch kick). Muhlenberg made it 28-3 when Klassen had his pass intercepted by Jake Saus who returned it 65 yards for a touchdown (Andrew Deutsch kick).
- Dickinson started their next drive at their own 25 yardline and using four carries by Dane Sorensen the Devils were on the MC40. Passes to both Braden White and Boyer sent the game to the two-minute timeout with the ball on the MC19. Rushes for Benning III and Klassen along with a pass to Boyer setup the Devils at the MC2. That was when Sorensen plunged in for the touchdown making the score 28-10 at half (Justin Worobel kick).
Third Quarter
- To open the half the duo of Benning III and Klassen advanced from the DC30 all the way down to the MC25 bringing up fourth down. The Devils would keep the offense on the field, but would have the drive end as Klassen was picked by Thomas Cerruti who returned it up to the MC36 and aided by a DC penalty the Mules started on the DC49.
- Neither side got anything going over the next two possessions as each team went three-and-out leading to Muhlenberg beginning on the DC48. A run of 29 by Manning and a carry for Spang had the Mules looking at fourth-and-eight at the DC17. That brought on Deutsch for a 34-yard field goal try which he pushed wide right.
- Klassen found Leon Friebel for 11 and Boyer for 22, while Klassen took over for carries of ten and 18 to get down to the MC9 looking at a fourth down. Unfortunately, for the Devils Sorensen would be stopped for a loss of two yards giving the ball back to the home side to begin the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- Muhlenberg's march ended seven plays into it when Spang was intercepted by Sean Couvertiere at the DC33. However, the Devils chance stalled in two plays as Klassen had his pass picked by CJ Newman who raced 29 yards down the field, before being shoved out by Justin DeMario.
- Fortunately, for the Red and White the defense showed its muscle as stops by Juan Pablo Garcia (2), Will Ryan and Julien Devlin forced the Mules to go four and out turning it over to the Devils at their own 13.
- Following a three-yard rush by Klassen, he linked up with Boyer (34) and Friebel (32) to get all the way down to the MC18. Consecutive passes to White advanced the visitors to the MC4, before Klassen connected with Benning III for a touchdown to make it 28-17 (Justin Worobel kick).
- The Mules then embarked on an eight-play drive that ended with a 41-yard punt by Sam Morris putting the Devils back to work on their six with 1:54 to go. On the first play, Klassen was sacked by Joseph Papa for a safety to set the 30-17 final.
