CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson football team used both a solid air attack and a strong ground game to post 561 yards of total offense on Saturday afternoon en route to a 47-22 Homecoming conference win over the visiting Ursinus College Bears at Biddle Field. In addition, to it being Homecoming for the Red and White the team honored their eight seniors prior to kickoff as they played what will most likely be their final game in Carlisle.
First Quarter
- Dickinson got the ball to start the game and marched right down the field using five rushes for Cedric Benning III and completions to Kellen Boyer and Leon Friebel to advance all the way down to UC1. Unfortunately, the Red and White would be stymied on fourth and goal at the one to come away with no points.
- On the Bears opening chance two rushes by Jason Bernard and passes from Tristan Machado to Jake Van Orden and Ryder Zulkowski brought them to the DC34 facing fourth down. Ursinus kept the offense on the field and watched Machado find Aidan Roselle for ten yards and a first down, but Joshua Moses punched the ball free allowing Jason Genilello to fall on it.
- Unfortunately for Dickinson, their opportunity came to a screeching half four plays in when Dane Sorensen put the ball on the ground resulting in Anthony Spurio covering the ball up.
Second Quarter
- Following passes of 39 and 15 from Ben Klassen to Friebel the Devils opened the period on the UC27. A pass interference call on the first play against Kendall Robinson had the home side at the UC13. Klassen connected with Boyer for ten to the UC1, before Klassen took it in on the ground for the 7-0 lead (Justin Worobel kick).
- The Dickinson defense continued to be strong forcing the Bears to punt giving it back to the Devils on their own 20. Receptions for Liam Kallen and Boyer had DC at midfield looking at a first down. The rest of the drive was on the duo of Klassen and Sorensen as through a combination of run and pass the Devils got down to the UC5. The offense would stall out there and would ultimately have to settle for a 22-yard Worobel field to make it 10-0 with 3:12 left.
- Ursinus rode the arm of Machado to find their first points of the day as he connected with Markel Roberts-Jackson for six, before finding Roselle for a 39-yard touchdown cutting the score to 10-7 (Ben Kiedrowski kick).
- Dickinson then took over at their own 35 yard line with just under two minutes left. Klassen would then run for gains of 11 and 24 as well as hitting Friebel for seven to UC23. After Benning III was stuffed for no gain, Klassen hit Friebel on a 23-yard touchdown (kick failed).
- The Bears were not able to get any points with their chance as two plays in Machado was picked off by Moses. That set the stage for a Sorensen three-yard carry and a 17-yard scamper by Klassen to get to UC40 with 15 seconds to go. Klassen then found Friebel for a 20-yard completion in the middle of the field allowing Worobel to come out and knock home a 37-yard field goal on the final play to take a 19-7 lead to the half.
Third Quarter
- Tackles by Sean Couvertiere and Will Ryan helped the Devils defense to force a fourth-and-three on the UC32. The punt unit came out, but would not actually get a kick away as the snap hit the up back allowing Eliott Nahon to land on top of the ball.
- A run by and pass to Benning III moved the Red and White to the UC25. On the next play Klassen found Friebel for a 25-yard touchdown extending the gap to 26-7 (Justin Worobel kick).
- The Bears then embarked on a very time consuming drive going 16-plays and taking up 7:25 ending with Machado hitting Zulkowski on a three-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-goal to pull within 26-14. However, on the ensuing DC possession runs by Klassen and Sorensen along with an 18-yard reception for Friebel had the Devils in business on the UC2. That was where Klassen gave the ball back to Sorensen who took it home for the 33-14 lead (Justin Worobel kick).
Fourth Quarter
- Ursinus began the final frame in the midst of a drive that had them looking at second-and-six on the DC23. Back-to-back runs moved them to the DC14, but then a chop block penalty pushed them back to the 29. That did not seem to bother them though as Machado found Zulkowski for a 29-yard touchdown making it 33-22 (two point conversion).
- The running trio of Benning III, Klassen and Sorensen combined for ten rushes, while Klassen completed passes to Colin Sullivan and Braden White to get down to the UC1. That was where Sorensen finished off 13-play, 80-yard march with a one-yard TD carry pushing the gap to 18 at 40-22 (Justin Worobel kick).
- After the Bears were denied on their drive, Benning III touched the ball on ten straight rushes going 85 yards on his own to cap off the scoring 47-22 (Justin Worobel kick).Â
