CHAMPS! For First Time Since 2011 Devils Claim CC Crown With Shutout Over Jays

CARLISLE, Pa. - For the second straight season the Dickinson men's soccer team is NCAA Tournament bound as the Red and White used a four goal first-half to help claim the Centennial Conference Tournament title for the first time since 2011 as the top-seeded Devils knocked off the fourth seed Johns Hopkins University 4-0 at Miller Memorial Field on Sunday afternoon.

First Half
  • Dickinson got things rolling early as just 40-seconds in Nicholas Dwamena slotted a pass to Tournament Most Valuable Player Luke Finkielstein who stashed the ball by John Ghanem for the 1-0 lead.
  • Seven minutes later the lead extended to 2-0 with Westin Fryberger loading up a long throw from the right touchline and put it right on the head of Timi Omoniwa who knocked it by Ghanem.
  • The home side just kept the foot on the gas getting shots from Ethan Jarden, Jackson Wolf, Dwamena and Finkielstein. However, none of them tested Ghanem, while at the other end Brendan Listzwan and Sean Vaghedi each tallied a shot the missed Nick Potter in the Dickinson goal.
  • The Devils made the Jays rue their missed chances in the 30th minutes when Dwamena finished off an unassisted marker.
  • Darian Crim, Parker Kiey, Jeremy Sallade and Charlie Roy all posted a shot over the ensuing six minutes, but Ghanem was there to make two more saves.
  • Inside the final minute of the period Roan Harrington dribbled through multiple Hopkins defenders and ultimately was tripped up by Juan Bruzzone resulting in a penalty kick. It would be only fitting that Harrington stepped up and drilled it past Ghanem for the 4-0 advantage at the break.
Second Half
  • Dickinson continued their high press and attacking style of football early in the frame getting shots from Saul Iwowo and Jarden tasking Ghanem with making one stop inside the first ten minutes.
  • In the 58th minute, the visitors had a chance to give themselves a spark as a long ball over the top of the DC defense forced Potter off his line and he would collide with a JHU attack giving the Jays a penalty opportunity. Fortunately for the Red and White, Potter read it perfectly making a diving stop to his left.
  • The Devils attempted to make the Jays pay once again, but shots for Fryberger, Iwowo, Jarden and Sallade were unable to find the back of the net.
  • Bruzzone recorded the visitors final shot of the contest with 78:16 off the clock, unfortunately, he could not test Potter.
  • Crim called upon Ghanem twice in the final five minutes, while Kiey pounded the crossbar to finish of the 4-0 win and the title.
