OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The 17th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team appeared to find their offensive mojo on Saturday morning as they scored five goals in the opening quarter of their Top-20 clash against the 13th-ranked Washington and Lee University on Day Two of the Callum Robinson Mustang Classic on the campus of Stevenson University. However, the Red and White were blanked in the second and fourth quarter allowing the Generals to claim an 11-8 win and push the Devils skid to three games.
- Each keeper was tested early as Nick De Cain came up with the answer for Ethan Gess, while at the other end Rocco Bognet shutdown Hillis Burns.
- Dickinson then connected on their next two shots as Ramsey Huggins linked up with Matt Thurston, before a faceoff win by Ben Trucksess led to Mac Childs solving De Cain for the 2-0 lead with 11:36 left.
- Another Bognet save would set the stage for Huggins to strike unassisted to open up a 3-0 cushion.
- A slashing penalty against DC opened the door for James Haley to cut it down to 3-1, before 15-seconds later he cut it down to 3-2.
- Two more Bognet stops allowed for Ben Monroe to finish off a dish from Charlie Baughan, followed by Luke Devlin ripping the net to make it 5-2 through one.
- Bognet continued to "red hot" for the Devils knocking aside a chance from Joey Allen just 26-seconds in, but Robert Bath would beat him just over a minute later to close within 5-3.
- Dickinson would tally just one shot through the opening six minutes with Thurston sailing the offering high, while at the other end Allen trimmed another off the gap (5-4) with 6:31 gone.
- Four of the ensuing five shots belonged to DC with Luke Whalen and Thurston missing the mark as Joey Wood and Baughan were shutdown by De Cain to keep it at 5-4 with less than five to go.
- Unfortunately, for the Red and White they were not able to head into the break with the lead as Haley put the ball in the net to level things at 5-5.
- With just over a minute gone Burns had to sit for a conduct foul allowing Jack Murphy to setup Landen Hyatt for the strike to reclaim a 6-5 edge.
- After Jack Elliott pinged the crossbar he tracked down his own loose ball and fired it back past Bognet to level things up with 11:11 to play.
- Unfortunately, for DC Bognet would have to be removed from the contest due to injury forcing Ben Tompkins into action at the 5:17 mark.
- Tallies from Allen and Elliott surrounded an unassisted marker by Jack Schutte to leave it at 8-7 W&L with under five minutes remaining.
- Dickinson would head into the final period on even ground though as Evan Karetsos stole the rock away from Burns and went coast-to-coast for the finish to make it 8-8.
- W&L needed less than a minute to reclaim the lead thanks to Elliott.
- After attempts from Ethan Gess, Blake Resnick and Thurston all missed the target James Cardillo bumped the gap to 10-8 at the 5:12 mark.
- Three saves from Tompkins over the next couple of minutes gave DC a lifeline, but Burns cashed in with 3:04 remaining to cap the game and scoring at 11-8.
